Has any one ever tried clicker training? weve rescued a dog from sheffield strays a few months back and she needs a lot of training. She only 15months old so still a baby and now shes settled in with us we want to start training her. Does any one know if clicker training works? and where i could buy a clicker from? I went to the pet shop at meadowhall and the lady had never even heard of it :confused:

To be honest, I'm not surprised she's not heard of it. It's not actually her little shop at Meadowhall, it's her partners and I get the feeling they're not into practical things!

I clicker train and love it - the dogs love it too. It's used as a reward marker - so teaches the dog exactly what she's done right to receive reinforcement and the clicker also has a great calming influence on nervous dogs.

I have an 8 week 'fun obedience' course starting on the 4th September with which free clickers will be given and I will go into how to use one but it's still optional whether you use it or not. .

I clicker train with the ponies and it works really well.

I've also heard of people using clickers with their hens!!! :D

Ooh that reminds me Lotti - you mentioned ages ago that you might look into running a clicker training course for cats. Were there not enough people interested?

At the moment shes very scared around other dogs and can get panicked so i was hoping to start her off at home. Im trying to socialise her with my parents dog and shes better around other dogs but shes still quite nervous and can get aggressive.

Joey - I am starting off one at a time... today obedience courses for dogs, tomorrow... cats or maybe even rats!

Jobi Wan, people clicker train chickens, sheep, goats, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, cockateils... you name it!

I clicker train one of my cats too :D

I have been 'desensitising' Takara to large dogs using the clicker and it's worked a treat just have to work on stopping her going to say hi to them all now!! :lol:
