Having just watched the Godfather with my son, was there any women that were as evil.

I would have been as ruthless but my son says The Godmother does not have the same effect.

Yes indeed there are or have been 'Godmothers' (in the Camorra, the Naples equivalent of the Cosa Nostra). In the 1990s, after their men had either been killed or locked up, women relatives filled their places in the 'organisation' and proved to be just as ruthless as their menfolk with regard to bumping off rivals and also engaged in gunbattles with rivals.

Incidently, I watched part of the Godfather on channel 5 last night. It is just as good as I remember it. A classic film

Yes, my Lord, but would you not agree that Scorcese's Goodfellas is the better film? The performance of Joe Pesci as the terrifying, psychopathic 'Tommy' is a tour de force. De Niro and Liotta are superb too. I think it is far superior to the, admittedly high quality, Godfather.

I would have to agree with you Timo - GoodFellas is my favourite Mafia movie. I think Ray Liotta is excellent in it. I loved Al Pacino as Tony Montana in Scar Face. I think he was way better in that than in any of the Godfather movies.

Timo, I am a big fan of Scorsese - the list of excellent films he has made is a very long one. My own favourites of his are Mean Streets, Raging Bull, After Hours, The Last Temptation of Christ and Goodfellas. Why has he never won an Oscar?

Cobalt Blue - have you seen Donnie Brasco? Pacino was really excellent in this also. When I was watching Godfather the other night I couldn't help contrasting the part he played in G (as a young, goodlooking, smart and successful gangster) with the part he played in DB (i.e. an old, wizened failure).

I had forgotten about Donnie Brasco. Pacino's portrayal of "Lefty" as the sad, pathetic hasbeen/never was been was excellent. I felt so sorry for him.
