At about one this morning the OH started getting what can only be described as labour pains.
She rang the hospital who told us to get there as fast as possible, and as Im as blind as a bat we phoned her sis who took us into Leicester to the infirmary and....
Nothing...
We were there until about 4.30 she sitting there with monitors on her belly, her sis sitting next to her and me... well, I was messing about as usual, making them laugh which hurt the OH because.. well, laughing as youre in labour or getting the pains... not nice. It got to a point where she couldnt look at me, especially when the midwife was in there because I was... being me...
The last pregnancy she had held quite a few false alarms for us, if I remember rightly there were four trips to and from the hospital for nowt, but this one is the first one of this pregnancy.
Because the OH has too much fluid in her womb, she has to take each contraction seriously because theres a danger that the presure will force the umbilical out first if her waters break and thatll be lethal for the baby- mainly because we`re so far form the hospital.
That means theres a chance of lots of false alarms... the entire family are on standby, cars at the ready to whisk us to Leicester, teens ready and waiting to do the babysitting thing and neighbours ready to flit as soon as my back is turned...
So, poppets....
False alarms.... How many have you had? How long did it take to drive your partner into a nervous frenzy each time you said the word "Ow!" ? What arrangements did you make? Did all the planning work?
