View Full Version : Supporting two teams?

There seems to be quite a few footy fans that keep an eye on results from other teams (me included) and they “sort of” become their second team. Although in my case, the term “second team” isn’t right. But I always check another team’s result in the Green ’un.

I have been following the progress of Aldershot Town from them going out of existence many years ago, to them rising from the ashes like a Phoenix. I truly hope they make it back to the football league this time after failing in the play-offs last season.

If Aldershot fail, I will be disappointed, but not upset.

I know someone who has two teams, and some weeks I don’t know which is his first team and which is his second team. At times he is fanatical about both.

I’ll give you an example. When United failed to win at Watford, on the Saturday night, Shaun had a face as long as the river Humber. The next day, Sunday, I saw him strutting round Manor Park (in his Celtic shirt) happy as a pig in muck, because Celtic had beaten Rangers. However, this Saturday he was doubly pi**ed off, because United and Celtic had both lost. I jokingly suggested he should find a third team to support. I’ll not print his reply, but let’s just say he sounded like a spoilt little kid who wanted it his own way all the time.

Apart from your team, which other team’s result do you check out in the Green ’un?

An ex-boyfriend of mine used to have a soft spot for Crewe Alexander - don't ask me why  mind you I did manage to convert him to being a Wednesdayite from being a Unitedite.

My 2nd team is Schalke 04 which I doubt you'll find in "The Green 'Un" as they're in the Bundesliga

I used to pop down to Chesterfield when the Blades were away. I used to live in the peaks so they were the local club.

it was also very cheap to get in and you could actually buck about on terracing.

Four teams, just to be awkward :P

- Started off supporting Forest (we were in Europe at the time, honest!).
- Not long after that started looking for Man City results as well to be different, due to knowing a lot of people supporting Man Utd for no good reason. Man City were in the same division that Forest are in now, but two promotions and one Stuart Pearce later, look like they're going to finish high enough for Europe for the first time.
- Several years ago started supporting Mansfield Town for a joke. They turned good, then bad. Then good, now bad again.
- Have recently decided to follow Wednesday as well, 'cos I'm going to be an official Sheffield resident as of July. (Could hardly have supported United as well as Forest)
One in each division still - bizzare!

And special thanks to Mozilla for enabling me to check on all the teams by just clicking one thing :)

I always look out for Boston United's result and Rotherham due to links.

Sheffield folk should all have Sheffield FC (http://www.sheffieldfc.com) as your second team - we have the oldest football club in the world on our doorstep, they deserve more support! Second in the table and in 2 finals.

I'm from Nottingham originally so (unfortunetly) I'm a Forest fan - yeah go on, laugh away! Like to see Wednesday do well though as well. Also quite like Norwich but I'm not entirely sure why :loopy:

I'm a Leicester fan (condolences to the you uniB) but since moving to Sheffield I have to say I have adopted both Sheff Utd and Sheff Weds as my joint second team. If I had to edge toward one or the other it would be Sheff Wed as we are up against Utd in the league this season, but then again I have seen more Utd games than Weds since living here.

My second team is now officially Sheffield FC since I saw 'em beat Hallam 5-3 in the derby game the other month. Went again last Friday to their cup semi, and I seem to be getting somewhat besotted. Next stop Hillsborough for the final. Reckon I'll be buying a shirt before too much longer...

I always keep a close eye on how Scunthorpe are doing as up until a year ago when I graduated and got a job here in Sheffield that's where I lived (well - closest football team to where I'm from anyway).

When people ask me where I live - I say Sheffield.

When people ask where I'm from - it's Scunthorpe :)
