View Full Version : Charles Pexton, Joiner, of Huntersbar.
Hi everyone,
Just doing a bit of family history. I am trying to trace any of the decendants of my grand- father Chas Pexton. He and his wife Laura lived at 35 khartoum Road( near Hunters bar),from at least 1917- 1940. He had a daughter , RUBY and 3 sons, Douglas, Jack, and theother unknown. Any info would be much appreciated.
cheers Ian.

Thanks for the info on Lilly. Lilly was the last of a trio of maiden spinsters sisters from Sheffield, reputed to be dressmakers to Q Victoria. I don`t know if they are related to me ,but Pexton is not a common name in sheffield,so you never know!!. Many thanks for taking time to do a look-up for me.
regards, Ian.

Have Charles at 35 Khartoum Road
looks like they are his sisters
Presume you have him in the 1901 census.
I don`t know if Charles is related to the sisters, and in the 1901 census there are a few Charles pextons, but I cant link any of them to my grandfather either by address or dob. Any ideas?
cheers, Ian.

Ihave no info on Laura ,although in the Sheffield trade index she is listed as still livin at no 35 in 1939, no mention of charles in the trade index after 1929.

A trip to Archives, or LDS Wheel lane, or 1837 online,
try and find marriage and deaths,
deaths are more positive everyone has to go there.
cheers for your help,much apreciated.
The main Library in sheffield is quite good for reference, but where is wheel lane?.
Cheers, Ian.

Is the Kelly Directory available online?
I need to find a connection in Sheffield so would you mind looking for me please if you have a copy?
I'm looking for a May Garbutt (married to John R Garbutt in 1924). She was a dressmaker but I don't know if she worked for herself or someone else. I need a connection with Little London Road, Heeley, to link them to my family.
What is the LDS library like? Somehow, I feel a bit scared of going as I have only just started my research and don't know the protocol and exactly what I am looking for.
Thanks
Sandy
Wheel lane is off Halifax Road at Grenoside Sheffield
the church on the corner is the LDS
they are a friendly and helpful group
Don't bite have no strange customs and won't try and make you join them,
they hold most of the parish records and census,
open- tue- thur- fri 10-2 and 7-9 tel. 0114-2453124
census information is on film and you have to book a reader.
parish records are on fiche first come first served.
Sandy
there are some directories online at
digital library of historical directories but they don't cover court houses, you need the library.
Thanks retep
I will give the LDS library a try one day.
I looked at the library of historical directories site - I was engrossed for about an hour!!
