What a minefield! We are trying to find good quality assisted housing in the Sheffield area (preferably W or SW of the city). A flat / house with 2 bedrooms in the grounds of a nursing home but with the ability to call on the services of the latter should it be required in the future.
Have we just been unlucky in our search or is Sheffield lacking in these facilities?
Do you know of any appropriate developments or have any ideas where to start looking?

I work at an assisted living in the States, ALL assisted livings here are privately owned and quite expensive as assisted living is in between senior housing where you have to be independent and a nursing home.
Assisted livings don't take any insurance or pensions like the other two do, unless you have your own private insurance.
Maybe it's independent living you're looking for !

There's a lovely assisted living complex on Norfolk Park, very nice views right across Sheffield, and very near-on to things like doctors, the Manor Top shops and less than 10 mins into town on the tram.

McCarthy and Stone are building a complex on Ecclesall Rd South, just at banner cross.

Go over to Scunthorpe Council and ask about their properties, I had one in Epworth with very reasonable rent.

sassyb, you don't say whether you're looking to buy or to rent, or if it is in relation to an elderly person or someone with a disability. There are likely to be many different options, but they probably will all be expensive!
