Probably many threads already discussed this topic...
I am just aware of a horrible news happened in March. A female student was raped in Frogg Walk of Sharrow in the early hours of the day. So sorry to hear about that....
The footpath has a notorious reputation among local residents. But for students who are new to Sheffield, we may not have heard of any until some nasty things happened.
We are always reminded to be more cautious and not to take unnecessary risk of using "short-cut" path, in particular after dark when less people use it.
But things alway like this... we know what to do, but always make careless mistake....
Can anyone advise any other short-cut path / place with a long history of criminal activity, say in Crookesmoor, City Centre, Sharrow, etc.? So that we may pay more attention. Thanks
If your on your own somewhere thats a bit secluded your always taking risks. My friend was robbed outside his house in Crookes in the middle of the day, the blokes simply saw that there was no-one around and beat him up! I've never had any problems in Sheffield, I think if your careful and avoid walking around on your own especially at night/down alleys you should be fine! Its the same anywhere in the city, if your alone and in a quiet place then your more vunerable and peple will seize the oppertunity.
there doesn't seem to be a lot of problems really. Again don't walk in secluded areas on your own and you should be fine. Its a lot safer than Hull (and that's really the only place I could compare it to.
As a 2nd year student at collegiate crescent campus this area is obviously important to me. I lived in halls in the city centre last year, and was very naive when i fist moved here.
I have wised up a bit now though. Never had nay major probs myself, but im not as risky as a lot of my mates are.
I live in Nether Edge now, and i must say i do feel safer walking around here than in the city centre. Im always quite aprehensive in the centre, careful with my bag etc. Im only in ther for a minute before someone comes up asking for the time, money, food blah blah blah.
Out of interest where is this Frog Walk?

I can agree with that. Went to uni in Hull and every day somebody was attacked or beaten up (I got the crap kicked out of me one late night after a club). Sheffield has some similar problems, but nowhere near as much as some other major citys.

I'd advice anyone living in halls to be more aware of who's coming and going. In the past 4 months i've been in most of the main Halls flyering including Tapton, Broomgrove, Woodville and Charlotte Court. I've easily followed people in or caught the door as they're leaving, often walking straight past security. I was amazed at how easy it would be for someone wanting to get in for something more menacing than dropping a few flyers. I've seen loads of doors open with laptops, playstations etc in plain view.

PS. Originally from Hull, i can confirm it is a hole. :P
