View Full Version : Yesterday I was branded a shop lifter
monday we went out and picked a bathroom suite and paid for it,we had to pick it up yesterday.....missis was at work so i had to go down mi sen....i also had to pick a shower and get all the nessesery fittings copper pipe, joints etc (not paid for.)
anyway while i was waiting for the bathroom suite to be brought to the front i went for the other stuff and got the code number of the shower i'd picked,i gave the number out to the woman on the counter and she called out on the tannoy for the bloke to bring it with the BRS...
well when he brought it my first thought was OMG how am i gonna fit that lot into a escort estate,i had visions of making 2 trips and leaving stuff in the car park, anyway she tells me to go through the checkout, i gives all my "extra's" to the checkout girl hands her my card pays and off i go...
still trying to workout how i'm gonna get it home...well about 20 mins later i'm just putting the finishing touches to my loading skills when out comes the woman that had taken my order telling me i hadn't paid for the shower..the fella that had brought it had put it inside the bath...
i go's back in the shop with her feeling a right **** as she is mumbling away to her sen summat about me nearly getting away with it....i'd been worying that much about getting all the stuff in the car i didn't check the amount on my card receipt before i signed it HTF was i supposed to know it hadn't been put on the bill.
and before anyones asks i,m up at 7am on a saturday morming its because i,m about to fit a bathroom

oi i'm the resident cheif of sarcasm i'll have you know:|
rubydazzler 30-04-2005, 06:11 hiya kirky ... I'm not sure if you were wanting sympathy over the situation or not ... but here's some anyway. Ok, nothing happened that time except a sales assistant giving you a little bit of insulting backchat but - it could have been serious.
A relative of mine years ago, was accused of stealing something from a shop in Sheffield centre. She was held in full view of shoppers in High Street for over 20 minutes whilst they searched her bags etc. Then taken to West Bar in a police vehicle. About two minutes after they arrived there, the shop rang to say they'd found the item in question!
She was very upset at time, obviously, took it further with a complaint to their Head Office and later got compensation from the shop as an "apology" which in no way did compensate her for what she'd experienced whilst it was all going on. Twenty years on she still recalls it and how awful she felt at the time.
The assistant had no right to imply that you'd deliberately taken an item without paying for it, it was their mistake. I'd be reporting the incident to their management if it'd been me in your shoes. That's atrocious customer service.
Don_Kiddick 30-04-2005, 06:30 :hihi: Kirky, the mystery shower shifter :hihi:
I once witnessed an Ophthalmic Consultant get frisked & accused of nicking in WH Smiths by a skinny spotty teenage 'security guard' !
He didn't know that I was there or that I'd seen it happen & I've never let on to him as it would have killed him
(I used to work with you see......).
Anyway he hadn't nicked owt & was  livvid! :hihi:
thats sounds bad ruby, thankfully mine wasn't to bad,i would have loved them to fetch the police though, it would have been easy to prove i hadn't touched the shower so how could i have hid it in the bath...the bath was full of stuff and i just put it into the back of the car.i don't think i'll bother complaining but i'll certainly shop elsewhere in future.
Kirky,
Give 'em hell.
Did anyone else hear her mumbling about you 'getting away with it'?
Because if so that's a slander.
Complain - who knows, an extra 20% off your shopping might be offered...
Also, if we don't complain when these idiots screw up they just keep doing it.

He could have probably saved 20% - and not been accused as a shop-lifter - had he come to my shop anyway!:P I'd love to know which company it was. Go on, Kirky,at least tell us the location.
Don_Kiddick 30-04-2005, 07:31 What do you sell Ousetunes?
& does everyone get 20% off?:heyhey: :D
foo_fighter 30-04-2005, 07:32 Deffo not on them having a go at you.
At least write a letter of complaint to the "store" in question, be nice and polite but explain what happened, who knows, you might get a free toilet brush. ;)
I think if in a situation like this I would be pretty happy if the police were called. Nothing like that warm feeling in side when you make some one feel like the complete pratt they are, as your innocence is proved! :hihi:

alchresearch 30-04-2005, 10:08 I'm sure you've been called worse Kirky - you have on here anyway!
Did you post the message for:
A) Sympathy
B) To give Owdlad more ammunition
C) To give us all a laugh
:D
maybe she was trying to make a joke? But i don't suppose you'd mutter it then.
No harm done though, make a complaint if it really upsets you.
1Man&hisBMW 30-04-2005, 10:52 Good job it wasn't a batch of new shirts that got taken mistakenly... otherwise she would have branded you a 'shirt-lifter'..... i'll get me coat...
got accused of shoplifting in a supermarket in France (note to self never take a bag into a French supermarket)
had to explain why I was carrying a bottle of water and sun tan cream around.
sauerkraut 02-05-2005, 05:30 Had a similar experience one of the first times I went shopping in Germany. Years ago now, but still makes me seethe when I think of it. Store detective marched me into the middle of the shop to search my bag in front of everyone. Said he had "seen" me put a carton of orange juice in there. When it wasn't there he then picked out the (well used, English) story books I had for the children and asked me where I'd got them from!! Finally he ended up muttering something like "Well, I suppose I have to apologise."
I felt so helpless coz my German wasn't then up to giving him a real piece of my mind, but I think he probably got the message! Really wish I'd complained properly to the manager after I'd calmed down - I just boycotted the shop for ever afterwards. Some consolation that they lost loads of business that way coz I would otherwise have bought nappies there!!
But the experience stays with you and even now I don't like "just browsing" in shops for fear I'm being watched. My advice: COMPLAIN!!

I hope you reminded them who helped them out in the last 2 big scraps they found themselves in, mate?
And gave them the Agincourt Salute :D
Hand on heart kirky if you had got home and found out they had not charged you for the shower what would you have done.?
