I went to see Guess Who tonight; it's film (broadly) about a black family who have their grown-up daughter come home to stay with them with a white boyfriend.

I really thought this might be a chance for popular cinema to deal with issues of the day from a different angle; I was very wrong.

It just seemed to be yet another attempt for the Hollywood producers to make some money by reinforcing old stereotypes albeit from a different angle.

Has anyone else seen it?

No,

But it sounds like a remake (oh how I HATE that word - or do they call them 're-visioning of concept) of ''Guess Who's Coming to Dinner'. That was Spencer Tracy as the Father figure and Sidney Poitier as the gues (I think).

Kristian, I believe it was Sam Goldwyn (of MGM fame) who once said with regard to films 'If you want to send a message use Western Union'. :) I believe that with modern Hollywood he has nothing to be afraid of.

Any dealing with issues that does take place is probably accidental and those scenes have probably managed to survive various 'test screenings' with slack jawed yokels in places like Moose Groin, West Virginia.

Sorry, I'm in a VERY strange mood today! :)

But I'm glad to have coem up with the concept of a town called Moose Groin....:)
