Dont know if this has been covered in other threads, but wondered if anyone knew any small side streets or back roads around town where you can still park for nothing. of course, if you Do know, you will prob want to keep it to yourselves, but I was just curious as to if there WERE any such forgotten side streets or areas where the yellow lines and parking meter have not ventured yet.

or perhaps I am just wishful thinking here.......

Having lived in london for 3 years previously I managed to find a number of FREE parking side streets, usually down a maze of narrow side roads no one knew about..it took me ages to find them and then work out how to actually DRIVE to them, but YES in the MIDDLE of London it can be done so surely Sheffield has something waiting to be discovered.....

I can't name any off hand, but roads with a single yellow line only usually have parking restrictions Monday-Saturday. It's just a shame that the city is all but closed on a Sunday to take advantage of it.

Well what about Monday to Friday?

i wouldnt risk it -as before you get out of car a member of the traffic guestepo will pounce fron behind a wall and slap you with a ticket demanding money with menaces .

I am sure there are places though.....What about near London Road or behind Bramall Lane?

Forget it, sheffield is the most unfriendly place to have a car in this country, you will get slated for having a car, and then when you do park, you will get your wallet nicked in charges, walk, the bus service is just a filthy rip off and not worth even mentioning

There's loads of places down by Bramhall lane/Shoreham Street etc, but the'yre usually chocka quite early on in the day so you'll end up driving round for ages trying to find a spot.

There's a side street behind the apartment block that I live in which is city center and free parking, people tend to block the ends on weekdays but on weekends its more or less empty, does fill up occasionally though.

LOL, he will be on soon to feed us the council handbook and send us all to sleep:D the only purpose of the city centre car parks is to empty your wallet

If you have an LPG vehicle and join the Council parking scheme for a tenner a year, you can park in any Council run car park for free. I've saved a fortune over the last few years, not only in parking fees but on fuel costs too.

Find an area where the traffic furniture (signs) are missing or wrong. They cannot prosecute if that is the case (I believe). I know of one location with 'free parking' right in the heart of the city where this applies. Won't last long though I'm sure.

now you have brought it to light an army of parking wardens will be hiding behind a wall ready to pounce and empty your wallet.

Wasn't they once a programme on TV where someone appealed against a parking ticket and won, because some roadworks had happened and the double yellow lines were "broken" i.e no line at the end
