Does anyone know if there is a gala this weekend in Hillsborough Park? I'd heard there was one Sat/Sun but can't find any posters/info anywhere about it...

FairyNormal 29-04-2005, 20:45 The Mayfest is the end of May. I have mixed feelings about it though. My teen daughter loves it because of all the bands that play (Freefaller both days this year) but I hate it as it's all pay pay pay. You pay to get in then it's not a lot more than lots of (expensive) fairground rides and trade stalls. Depends what you like really. Maybe I'm justgetting old?!! As far as I am aware there is nothing happening this weekend in the park. gemma86 29-04-2005, 21:01 Any idea which other bands are there besides Freefaller? I doubt we'll get someone like McFly last year again... Rich 29-04-2005, 21:19 Originally posted by gemma86 Any idea which other bands are there besides Freefaller? [/B] It sounds like you're right... apparently something on in Graves Park though? Great place for the kids too! Yes why should we have to pay to get in a public park?Norfolk and Graves park hold free events, with a small fee for parking (£2 last year)which is fair enough. The council should compensate local residents for the hassle it causes. gemma86 30-04-2005, 20:23 The Mayfest page: http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/out--about/parks-woodlands--countryside/events/major-outdoor-events/mayfest And the thing at Graves Park is the day after: http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/out--about/parks-woodlands--countryside/events/major-outdoor-events/highland-fling craigmason 01-05-2005, 06:27 do they still have the big show in graves park around the end of august because i went to mayfest and it cost a fortune to get there and then i had to pay £4.00 to get in  i might go to this one this year Norfolk Heritage Park 28th & 29th August 2005 Admission Free, car park £2 Sheffield Horticultural Show Traditional Fun Fair Multi Period History Camp Children's Entertainment Animal Farm and Ranger Roadshow Art and Craft Tent Sheffield Markets Classic Cars Falconry Displays Farmers Market RAF Lancaster Fly Past on Sunday      drp215 01-05-2005, 08:09 Originally posted by gemma86 The Mayfest page: http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/out--about/parks-woodlands--countryside/events/major-outdoor-events/mayfest And the thing at Graves Park is the day after: http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/out--about/parks-woodlands--countryside/events/major-outdoor-events/highland-fling Graves Park looks good, I think it is this weekend though, rather than the Spring Bank one... Sheffette 01-05-2005, 08:16 Yup - Graves Park, start of May (ie. Bank Holiday Monday) Hillsborough, END of May, at the Spring Bank hol. Also tomorrow (2nd May) Kelham Island is holding a Bringing in the May event with folk musicicians, morris and traditional dancing, the Sheffield Giants (yey!) and a real ale bar from the Fat Cat. Sheffette 01-05-2005, 08:17 wow - got a bit carried away there spelling musicians - had a 'bananana' moment. rosie 01-05-2005, 08:27 Would not normally pay to go to Mayfest but on the Monday Patrick McGuinness is there and I would not miss him for anything. Interestingly, the Kelham Island event, which has been running for ten years, used to be called the Mayfest, but the organisers (SRFAN (http://www.folk-network.com)) had to rename it after the Hillsborough Park event started up and stole the name. The (Hillsborough) Mayfest obviously didn't know (or didn't care) that the name was already in use, and anyway they have a much bigger advertising budget than SRFAN... Cynical, me..? |
