View Full Version : Odd lights in picture
Moon Maiden 18-10-2003, 08:56 http://www.theshadesshop.com/lights.jpg
This was taken at our moot.
In this pictures there seems to be a number of light anomolies - one in the top right hand corner appears to have a face of an old man with mustache. The other pictures which do not include Nos in the picture seem clear of these anomolies, despite the time when the picture was taken.
Can anyone see the old man in these things or is it just me. Also does anyone have any ideas on these?
The camera was a digital camera and ALL of the pictures were taken within a few mins or moments of each other.

DaBouncer 18-10-2003, 09:54 Sorry Moon, i can't see anything! I can see the lights (or orbs) but I cannot see the old man. Just look like flash reflections to me. But then I'm no expert!
alchresearch 18-10-2003, 10:46 If you stare at anything hard and long enough you can convince yourself to see whatever you want. I couldn't see anything.
PS Your link needs editing, you put UTL instead of URL.
I've seen stuff like this before in a magazine. They're not spirit orbs are they??
Moon Maiden 18-10-2003, 11:01 well yeah I know that - however my husband spotted these not me, and he is a skeptical old t***

They are a result of having dirt on a digital camera. I get them on my own camera from time to time. They are specks of dust that are out of focus because they are too close to the lense. This also happens on a friend's camera too - so don't panic!
edit: I have a few examples of very similar "orbs" on my own pictures if you would like to see them!
alchresearch 18-10-2003, 12:18 My first concern about the picture was the eyes of all the people in it - they look like zombies!
PaulTansley 18-10-2003, 12:31 I cannot also see the face, but there is a simular pattern in the 'orb' on the gents back and a faded one just south west of it.
Looks like dirt on the lense, but you never know do you.
Was the shot taken in your shop, looks like a pub to me.
Its dust in front of the camera flash
Try this hold a duster above your camera and shake it just before taking a picture then try it with out the flash
Moon Maiden 18-10-2003, 17:18 It is at the pub and the gentleman's back is my hubby :)
The thing that confuses me is that if it were dust - surely it would be static - i.e not moving. Or is this something I have got the wrong end of the stick?
Because the 'some' of the other pictures are clear.
A friend has suggested reflections from the lights and windows!

Spacehopper 18-10-2003, 17:40 8) Nah Den Ace.........
Yeah, I can see it. Can't everybody else see it? There's an image of a man with very dudious facial hair.
In fact, it looks likes.....no, it can't be.......oh my God, it's Alex Sabella! The man in the orb is Alex Sabella!!! What can this mean?
Alex............give us a sign!
Regards,
Spacehopper.
No moon its dust in the air
mr craig 18-10-2003, 18:05 Looks like i chilli to me???
I think its just dust/dirt on the lens,be nice to think its something a bit more sinister, but i dont think it is.:(
purplepippa 19-10-2003, 01:24 I'd imagine it's dust or flash reflecting.
I can see the circles of light but no moustached man I'm afraid.
Classic Rock 20-10-2003, 09:23 Looks like a mini man in the moon to me........
Phanerothyme 20-10-2003, 09:31 I get this all the time, and it is especially common with compact cameras, since the flash and the lens are so close together, any dust floating in front of the lens sparles brightly but out of focus.
With a good gap between lens and flash, the angle is more acute and the phenomenon is is less pronounced.
It's dust
Moon Maiden 20-10-2003, 10:35 has anyone any suggestions how I could test this?
Obvisouly with my wierd hobbies i can set up a spiritual event.
My husband tried it off hand last night wilst a friend of ours called his guardians for a tarot reading. We got only two 'orbs' out of about 10 pictures taken in the kitchin.
The orbs appear ont he pictures when our friend was speaking the name of his guardian.
But I would like to test this more.

1.Set up a room or scene for experiment, seating, table etc so that you can recreate the experiment time after time.
2. Decide on a position for the camera and always put it there (same height too) when experimenting
3. Take multiple (50 pictures) per experiment session. Get a non-involved photographer to take them at predetermined intervals if possible (like every 10 seconds)
4. If you want to rule out dust as a cause, you will need a HEPA filter suitable for the room size and run it for half the experiments - remember to run the filter for an hour or two in the room beforehand, and to switch it off during experiments.
5. You will need to run the experiment lots of times in each of about 8, or possibly sixteen permutations. In some sessions you must just sit there and not attempt anything spiritual at all, or better still get a group of 'stand-ins' to sit there.
a)HEPA on / Flash On / Witches
b)HEPA off / Flash On/ Witches
c)HEPA on / Flash Off / Witches
d)HEPA off / Flash Off / Witches
e) HEPA on / Flash On / Stand Ins
f)HEPA off / Flash On / Stand Ins
g)HEPA on / Flash Off /Stand Ins
h)HEPA off/ Flash Off / Stand In
6. Run each permutation, say 5 times, and make notes of different conditions
7.DO NOT LOOK AT THE PICTURES. Give them to someone else whilst retaining a copy, and ask them to tell you which pictures have 'apparations' in. Make it clear what you are looking for to this person, but the should be unconnected with the experiment.
This is not a perfect experiment, but goes some way to eliminating uncertainty at least, but there are probably dozens of mistakes (in terms of bad experiment design) that need to be corrected.
For the short experiment, I would stop using the flash, and see how many artefacts you get.
These blobs are widely commented on in digicam ratings, especially with cameras that have the lens and flash quite close together.
matsalleh 23-08-2004, 08:02 More recent orbs or dust.

I would be VERY worried about those people standing outside the church! They are obviously the sons of Beelzebub himself.
matsalleh 23-08-2004, 09:45 I would not worry about those people we get worse than that every other Saturday afternoon in Hillsborough !.I personally agree with the dust theory in these sort of pics, anyone got any in day light taken without flash?
Phanerothyme 23-08-2004, 10:55 here's fuji on the subject

matsalleh 23-08-2004, 16:16 The only thing that worries me is why are some of the things so large? Not dust particles more like meteorites.
