View Full Version : Dogs Going Missing From Graves Park
helenasq 16-08-2008, 22:07 Just to make everyone aware that there have been reports of dogs going missing from Graves Park and people are being advised to keep their dogs on leads.
I have seen a notice to this effect in the vets on Abbey Lane and I have also been warned by fellow dog walkers.
Please keep your dogs safe.
Worrying really. I do wonder how far away a dog has to be to go missing without trace if someone is grabbing them. Maybe it will make people have more control and keep them within sight instead of letting them run out of view and letting them approach other people/dogs.
Thanks for the warning.
is this affecting one particular breed or all breeds?
is there any evidence that they are stolen or just that they're going missing?
If an in-season bitch is being walked there then dogs can easily go AWOL, and as far as I know the city council don't scan dogs run over and picked up by streetforce to contact owners
However, I have overheard conversation between unsavoury looking blokes in the carpark at twighlight which made me suspect it's a rendevous point for dog fighting organisers

Really strix? That's terrible! Isn't Graves park pitch black at night? I know my local park is, no lights at all!
helenasq 16-08-2008, 22:35 I don't know any more info Strix except that it isn't a particular breed that's gone missing.
Ihave been led to believe by other dog walkers that the dogs have been stolen not gone missing?

Somebody else has mentioned this too - yes - really
twighlight is a heck of a long time in summer ;)

can you do any further digging?
crying 'stolen' seems to be something as fashionable or hysterical as crying 'dangerous dog' every time somebody spots a rott these days!
Lotti posted a thread a while back about a beagle who was supposedly 'stolen', but (as beagles tend to do) their dog had followed another dog walker and had returned under it's own steam to the car!
helenasq 16-08-2008, 22:44 Can ask any dog walkers if they know anything about it but don't know who put the original notice up in the vets.
Don't think I'll get time to go to vets this week ( it's not my vets) as I've got a really busy week coming up and I've already arranged to do my drop at the pound on Monday morning which was my only free slot.

"They're being stolen from back gardens, from cars, from parks. The people will wait for the owner to put posters up, advertising the fact that there's a reward and giving their contact details - and then they give them a call. And collect any rewards or have been known to hold them to ransom.
Hmm, might give the community police at Woodseats a call and see if they know anything useful
To be fair we were told by a policeman last summer of this happening in Graves park, but we always keep all our dogs in sight, we tend to walk to Ecclesall woods or lady spring by beaucheif abbey
so do you have any further info teeny? is it specific breeds? random dogs who mysteriously turn up after a poster campaign with rewards offered?
All i can say is they weren't specific breeds although there was at least 2 staffies missing from there. We were warned by a serving police officer to be vidulant, I am not sure if any were returned or rewards collected. I do know that there were also dogs taken from Meersbrook too.
this is awful i am buying one of thease next week my dog likes to go with me to the shops so i thought this was a very good idea http://shop.pawsitive.co.uk/petloc-mediumlarge-134-p.asp they are expensive but worth it
