Hi,
I'm selling my home so I can move up to Sheffield and am having a survey done tomorrow.
Can anyone tell me what is involved in a survey and can I do anything to make it look better......
I've been told it is a mvp survey and should only take approx 30mins.
Any help is appreciated

It's a very basic valuation survey to make sure that the property is worth at least what the mortgage lender is lending the buyer. If for any reason they had to repossess, then they know they can sell it and recover the debt. The surveyor will take a look in the loft at the roof timbers, things like brickwork, guttering, and will do a check for rising damp with a meter which is poked into the plaster. He won't be testing electrics or ripping up floorboards etc, just looking for the obvious really.

...and I will point out that although it may point out a few areas of concern (flat roofs is always a good one!) it is not the same as having your own Homebuyers Report done. If you contact your mortgage company and ask which firm of surveyors they will be using, you can get them to do both at the same time which will be cheaper for you ;)
there's nothing you can 'do' to make it look better, surveys look at structure of walls, foundations, roof, that sort of thing. It's the kind of work that's take weeks or months to rectify if there was anyhting bad.

It is also worth noting that that the basic valuation survey is not being carried out for your benefit even though you are paying for it (either directly or indirectly). If you are concerned about the property then I would agree with the previous posts & have a home buyers survey carried out out.
