Reading thru other threads this one occured to me.

It's holiday time and many of Forum contributors will be going abroad. Do you return a lobster of a deep bronze colour. If the former, how do feel walking around Sheffield.

Coming from the south, London, yes the sun does braek thru the smog occasionally, I always go brown and never go thru those other stages of burning and lobsterisation.

I get indian stripes on my face for 2 days then i turn a lovely shade of brown - its bliss!!!

My sisters ex used to haveto put factor 50 on every day and stay out of the sun completly- that doesn't sound like fun to me!!!

I go a lovely golden brown...

but always start peeling on the plane coming home so now I always carry my moisturiser in my hand luggage and spend the majority of time on the flight home applying it....re-applying it....re-reapplying it etc etc

MTheo don't forget this info for your first flight!!

Unfortunately I tend to just burn and peel. Bring on the factor 35+.

ps: I also like to eat lobster on holiday.

I agree with Jon, I eat the lobster but unlike him, most of me goes a deep brown, apart from one or two bits that get burned but they are mostly around the edges of the thong :D

I interject with a story about lobster. Last year I spent a week away, I dont wish to stereotype so lets say it was just away.

My partner and I decided to visit a rather expensive fish restaurant. There were a couple on the adjacent table.

The female ordered, I dont know what, but the male ordered Lobster Thermador when he was asked what he wanted with it he said Chips.

They delivered it, and he did no more than ask for red sauce.

Then I'd say the male was rather uncultured. The thermador sauce is wonderful for chip dipping! Last time I had lobster 'away' (in Rome last August) it just came on it's own and I had a side salad - but no chips - and certainly no red sauce.

So, you wear a thong Owdlad, at least it will go with your shirts since they have poo on them too. :hihi: :hihi:

Hope you have solved that stain problem.

Lobster Thermador with red sauce, that's uncoof. It should have been Hendersons, now ya talking.

By the way my partner had Monkfish on a bed of red cabbage and a drizzle of Lemon Puree and Horseradish mash

I had a tub of Jellied Eels

Know this is a tad off topic - but, how would people feel about cooking live lobster at home?

Re the effects of sunshine- I tend to ripen and peel, as do most Englishmen in the heat of foreign climes. To be honest, I'd rather sit in the shade, quaffing wine. Bring on the Lobster, Jon!

funny that, I always think if it's 98 in the shade, sit in the sun, it might be cooler........

Thank you the late Tommy Cooper for that joke

No problem Jon, I have no problem despatching chickens either.

Wait for the veggies to come crawling out of the cabbages to rant about killing animals ;)

I've never killed anything other than snails and shellfish. Do you use the bucket over the chicken method? Is it gruesome?

No bucket involved Jon, you get one hand on the neck near to the body and the other hand just behind the head, and in one swift movement you pull and twist in opposite directions, and it breaks the hens neck. Not at all gruesome.

Hello from a fellow Londoner

I burn really badly, even in just a tiny bit of sun, so its lots of sun cream and a hat for me :)

Back on topic (only cos I don't know anything about lobster!)...

I don't go out in the sun if I can help it. I have very pale skin so I'm in the high risk group for skin cancer. I'm also terrified of looking older than I actually am.

Even in winter I wear SPF 15 on my face.

I never actually sit in the sun on purpose and when I have to go out in it to get somewhere I'm plastered in SPF 35, shades, hat and as much covered up as is comfortable.

So in answer to the OP, I feel ridiculous walking around the streets of Sheffield in all that garb, but it's better than having skin cancer and/or lobster look. :)

I'm very much the same!

I have typical Celtic colouring - with very, very pale, almost white skin.

I go as red as a lobster if I'm out in the sun for any length of time - I wouldn't mind if my skin then went a nice shade of brown, but it doesn't - it just goes back to pale!

Still, look on the bright side - I've never had to wear white make-up to achieve the Goth look! :D

StarSparkle - not usually to be found on Mediterranean beaches :P

Like Pussycat and StarSparkle, without a really good sunscreen I'd burn to a crisp. And speaking from my own SPF-free experiences, it's nearly impossible to walk anywhere with scorched feet.
