What do old people do all day apart from moaning about things that have nothing to do with them?

I came home last night to find a traffic wardens note on our car and a note from our old nosey neighbour. she had reported our car for being parked outside our own home! (and overflow of garage over road)

Our car isnt normally their in the day you see, and only is this week as my fella is off sick.

it wasnt parked outside her drive and it blatently has nothing to do with her!

argh what a nebby old moose!

am i alone in this?

What did the note say from the traffic warden?? Unless it was parked on lines or causing an obstruction, then it's not an offence to park outside someone else's house....

Charlie01
28-04-2005, 11:50
it was just a warning, i think just to shut her up!
we were parked outside our house anyway..

Cruel I know but you can hardly go over and start ranting at an old lady just coz she has nowt better to do with her time....mind you it could speed things up a little...LOL!!

Maybe just a quiet word to explain it WAS outside your own house!!!

I'm more concerned about what appears to be a Parking Attendant exceeding his authority.
Can you tell us exactly what this "warning" said and whether it identified the officer?

It was an oficial bit of paper, bit instead of ticking any of the boxes for commiting an offence just wrote some illigible scrawl!
its at home so cant tell u for certain..

If you want nosey neighbours, doddery old trout, humourless has-beens and interfering busy-bodies, you should try living in this idyllic leafy suburb.

My God I hope my neighbours don't think that about me.

I can't help it if our windows are opposite each orther.

And I do get annoyed when their 3 cars spill over onto my part, especially as it's their 3 wheeler that we seem to have in front of our house and it used to be yellow.

So I hope they do not thnk of me as a nosey old neighbour more neighbourhood watch.!

He's changed it for another colour now.

He used to have motorbikes but kept having them stolen and fouund on the Manor so went for 3 wheelers, so they never gets stolen, no prestige in stealing it.
Or ramraiding with it!
So not a bad idea.

I now have this mental image of our Hazel (who I know to be a pensioner) twitching at the lace curtains and shouting out to her family "they went and changed the motorbikes for a yellow 3 wheeler car, and now they've changed it for a green one ... and they're still parking it outside our house!".

Is your neighbour's house called DelBoy by any chance?

No offence intended Hazel - I'm just creased up with laughter at these wonderful posts, especially the enquiring one from America!

Lots of love

I resent being branded a nosey old git just 'cos I'm a senior whatsit.
Admittedly , I do keep my eye on what's goin' on an' it's a good job I do too !
These are just some o' t' things I've spotted since Wednesday :-

Him across the road 's been 'aving women in at all hours o' t' day an' night. Dirty beggar !
Her next door never washes 'er smalls from one week to t'next. I don't think she wears any , to be honest.
Other side , next door's garden is a bl**dy disgrace.I told 'im to buy one o' them excavator things once an'you ought to heard t' language !
Their daughter on t' corner 's no better than she should be. Out till all hours , bingo drinking or whatever it's called, different bloke every night. 'er Grandmother were t'same , though. Durin' War there were more sailors in 'er 'ouse than thi were in Portsmouth.
I'll 'ave to break off 'ere as av got to get down t'Town for some new binoculars. Am sure that little git from number 3 nicked me last pair.

Before you go out for more binoculars, maybe have a look arounf the house fareast? You might find them down the side of you Shackleton's chair, or covered up by a People's Friend magazine! :D

Thanks , Kristian , found 'em !

They were underneath some dreadful magazines a got from 'im at t'corner shop [for research only ] A don't know 'ow some folk can tek all the'clothes off and do things like that in front o'a camera. I know we nivver did.
Must dash . 'im across t'road 's chattin' to Mrs. Broadbottom----somethin' s goin'off there an' no mistake !

Hazel - you are making me giggle.

Think your neighbours might be parking their no-longer yellow three wheeler outside your house because they are ashamed of it and want people to think it belongs to you...

we used have a right nosey old woman across the road she couldnt keep her nose out of anything and was always spying round the curtains. i had a hotdog van and parked it on the drive but hubby was doing a car up so it got put outside our house for a few days. next thing i knew i had got a letter from the council saying someone had reported it and i had 21 days to move it. it would have been put on the drive again in a few days but just for spite i left it there the full 21 days with a huge sign in its window that faced directly to her house saying " to who ever this concerns , its staying put so....." then i drew a picccy of two fingers :hihi: :hihi:

Could be samc ,
They have among the 3 vehicles a fairly new camper van which needs room to get out of the drive.
So the 3 wheeler ges parked last, in front of us.

Hey ! Charlie. If your car was parked legal then there would be no reason to stick a ticket on it. Maybe you are at fault. I gather you have problems that go back a little with this neighbour. I do not think we are getting the full story here. Maybe if your home was burgled then you would appreciate having a nosey neighbour. I once had a bad neighbour. One night he was burgled whilst still at home. His wife was in bed he was asleep on the sofa it seems after a few drinks. He was beaten up. quite a few saw some of what happened but would not ring the Police.

As for the other reply. If I had an HOT DOG van parked on my doorstep for a few days. Well it would certainly be moved. In actual fact, It would be moved after a few hours. Why not ask if the person minded instead of taking advantage.

It is time that we all learned to respect neighbours old or young. You never know when you may have to rely upon them for help or as witness to some nasty crime. I am great, I have some of the best neighbours anyone could wish for. We learn to live with each others faults and do not have petty arguements.

We have a double drive and sometimes if one of us hasn't parked in the middle bit (there are three of us in the house) then we have to park on the pavement.. I know you can get done for that! (the thing is we don't have a top way in to the drive so you have to drive on the pavement for about a metre..) It always seem to be on a day when this little old women is making her one journey that week out of the house... she always pauses and shakes her head at the house.. and then makes this big effort to walk right into the road to go around the car, I'm sorry but I've seen much worse parking! My dad is always paraniod we will get reported lol

If this old lady has to walk round the car, Then clearly this car is on the pavement. Even driving the few feet on the pavement is against the law. Everday I walk past home made drives, Mud on the pavement caused by cars, Walking around cars that are parked half on the verge and half on the pavement. Surely something can be done to make the drive take two cars. This old lady must be in her rights. Principals would have been different some years ago, This old lady would not have had to put up with this. Close to my home we have a TESCO. The parking there is atrocious. Cars park so awkward it is hard to pass them. They all want to be close to the entrance. The only way to teach them is to scratch the cars with the trolley, Maybe then the car owner would do what the rest of us do, Find a place to park even if they have to walk a few yards I do. If this lady slipped whilst walking round the car you would be liable. Surely parking is not so bad where you are that parking on the pavement is the norm.

Charlie01
29-04-2005, 18:42
Our car was parked legally, outside our house and not on the pavement. we do not have issues with this lady. it was not a ticket, jst a warning with some illegible scrawl on instead of ticking an offence box!
Irrelevant of her age, i do have respect for her as i was brought up with manners, but it had nothing to do with her and didnt affect her whatsoever!!

isnt it a bit disrespectful of you to scratch ppls cars with your trolley just to teach them a lesson! after u were bantering on at me for respect?!

It's also illegal (criminal damage).

My sincere apologies Charlie. I was refering to Ledi with the three cars and a double drive, parking on the pavement. As for scratching cars. If a car is on the pavement with hardly any room to pass, Then it is the cars fault. If the car was parked in a proper manner, Then people would not have to risk injury to themselves by trying to get around it. A guy had to climb on the bonnet of a car yesterday just to post a letter. The car was parked right alongside the letter box. No room to get to it. If anyone has visited TESCO on Herries road, Then they will know the situation. There is a car park at the rear, But this is inconveniant for some people they have to walk a few yards. I would rather try sqeezing past a car and the shop front, Other than the other alternative by risking walking into a moving car. All of us have some bad habits when driving there is no doubt. I do. But not at the risk or inconveniance of others. I recall last year, A guy emptied his ash tray on my front verge. I swept it all up with extra thrown in and threw it on his bonnet. OK a petty response. But this guy should have more respect he did not even live close to me. I am lucky, I have a long piece of road for parking. I do not have a drive I am situated on a steep hill and a junction. There are no houses on my side of the road, Just four on the other. Parking is difficult so visitors park outside my house. This I do not mind. As long as they respect my privacy and my well kept verge.

Once again Charlie sorry for the mix up. I was upset at the attitude to OLD FOGIES made by some. Ok take a rise have a laugh. But let us all show some respect for age.

By the way. I said the only way to teach them was to scratch their cars with the trolley. Not That I had done so. But if mine was scratched as a result of bad parking then I would blame myself.

well seen as it was on my door step not hers, i dont see the problem, it was a very tiny HD van and even a transit van would have been bigger.
this is the same woman that came over to tell me she had seen my son swinging on the back of the milk float that morning and he pinched some milk..... i may have belived her if it wasnt for the fact that my son was in rotherham at the time sleeping at his grannies :suspect:

Wouldn't it be nice to go back a few years. I remember the time neighbours would be there for each other. Not trying to outdo each other. Life has become a competition to many now. Keeping up with the Jones's. HP, Credit Card scams. DHSS scams. Unruly kids. There was a time when you could tell off the kid next door and be thanked for doing so. I am glad to say, I have an old lady of 78 next door to me. She is a marvellous neighbour. Ihave lived here for 12 years with never a disagreement with her or her family. The only arguement I had in my area was a dope dealer who lived down the road from me. He did not live there for long after that. I am on a main road with very few neighbours close by. But I respect everyone of them. There are problems sometimes. Only a fool would say there was not. But we sort them out amicably. I and my immediate neighbour will do anything to help each other out. She is a grand old " Fogy "

Guess i fit the "Peeking Pensioner Profile" too.
Have great neighbours on all sides but i love to watch the man next door wash his car EVERY SINGLE weekend and spends about 6 hours on it, Honest truth., but get this, he even takes off his licence plate, washes and waxes behind it then screws it back on !

Rodgers.. I'm not going to tell you where i live for obvious reasons.. and as for the statement that each person has a car and the position of the drive.. I don't really no what point your trying to make?!.. There is always plenty of room for the old lady to walk safely on the pavement without having to resort to moving even near the road. The car slightly sticks out of the drive, which borders on a very large wide pavement. I have never parked my car on the road and i assure you that on this road .. there would be an accident... nor do i have to park on the grass verge... which is at the other side of the extremely wide pavement!! Most of the houses on this road have double driveways.. is that a problem for you? I have seen a lot worse.. like people who park on the road and cause problems for other drivers, who I can bet are moving faster! BTW the older women doesn't actually have to walk into the road.. but thanks for the concern.

Hi
Just thought I'd tell you that our neighbours have gone away and left the 3 wheeler ( green) parked in front of our house
again.
Since I wrote on SF about it--- this is the first time it's happened.
So have we a lurker.

Rogers; How sexist! what about a bloke taking pride in the house & kids & a woman being proud of her car, too? If blokes actually spent as much time cleaning the house, as they do polishing the car, then there would be lots more happy, equal, households!

Anyway back to the subject... I think nosey neighbours (as in peering out of windows and what not) are pretty harmless and should just be accepted.

I think this OAP crossed the line though. As long as you haven't done anything to her personally then she had no right to start grassing up on people and just being a pain in the a***

hazel No-one would understand about 3 wheelers over here because they'd never allow them on the road. Even Smart Cars aren't considered roadworthy - they don't meet US safety standards. There is no MOT where we live in Emmett (I don't think its state law in Idaho) so people drive some right old wrecks with broken windshields and bad brakes.

Our nearest nosey neighbour lives about 1/2 mile away. She drives around the neighbourhood stopping by to tell you all the other neighbours woes and illnesses. I'm sure people don't want their private business broadcast all over town but she never says anything nasty about anyone but insinuates things instead:suspect:

i'm a nosey (not old) neighbour always watching for the kids kicking the football at my car, or the 5 year olds that think riding their skateboard as a go-kart is fun. str8 into my wall or car.

very keen on keeping an eye on holidaying neighbours don't want to attract the wrong element onto the street. however we have had a car broken into late at night when i was asleep so i'm not really that much of a deterrent.

was more fun being nosey when the female neighbours washed the cars in bikinis, but gravity has taken over & they use the car wash thses days.

No you are not alone. We live in Greenhill and have the same problem with one of our neighbours..i say neighbour but in actual fact she lives across the main road and round the corner but she causes trouble for everyone. She frequently puts stickers on peoples windscreens telling them not to park places including my disabled father in law who parked just by our house when visting. She also reports people who she has grudges against. She reported one of the neighbours for letting her dog foul the footpaths when the rest of the neighbourhood knows very well that the lady in question always walks with a pooper scooper. She also reported us to some sort of mediation charity for shining our headlights in her window when we are pulling into our own drive!! it was rubbish and what brought her to do this? The fact that we were coming in the early hours because my father was sadly dying in hospital. The old hag should get a life..Don't put up with it..old age is no excuse to try and wreck other people's privacy.
