Try AVG Free (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5), which takes you to the AVG free download page

I use AntiVr from http://www.free-av.com/ at home. It's free for personal use and updates itself every 2 weeks.

That's crap, that is. Only updates every other week....

You'll get loads of virii that way.. Even AVG free can be set to update each day.

For windows, use AVG free.

Linux, use Clam

Seconded, - AVG checks for updates every morning almost as soon as I go on-line.

F-Prot is also good for a second opinion, - but runs in a DOS window.

I may have to give AVG a go then, does it take up many resources? I had norton a while ago and it practically killed my machine.

AVG behaves itself. Works better than programs you have to pay for :)

I had Norton, both anti virus and firewall but got sick of them, sometime they worked and sometimes they didn't, and the anti virus didn't always pick a lot of stuff up, now use adaware as well as microsoft antispyware beta and find I'm covered quite well using just alongside AVG.

It's not nicknamed 'Snortin' Norton for nothing ;)

AVG7 uses very little system resources (mines using just over 10MB RAM right now)

Well, it runs perfectly well on our gateway PC (166 PII, 64M ram - also running ZoneAlarm Pro);).

Oi Vidster, leave Norton alone. Runs perfectly well on this (now) low-spec PC.:D:P

I use AVG and ZoneAlarm (Free firewall) and both work very well together. Had a lot of problems with Norton and others that you pay for.

I have at least one current copy of Norton running on my networks at home and work, and AVG free as well. on other machines and I find that AVG seems to be very good. Both both programs seem to pick out different virus risks. Norton updates regularly but AVG updates almost every morning. Both are good I can't decide which is best.

I have AVG (or AGV cant remember what way round it is) and it is very good. Norton wrecked my PC so i am sticking with the free things from now on!
