Hello

I've recently acquired a CD Rom of Kelly's 1925 Sheffield & Rotherham Directory specifically to look for family in Dolphin Street. Am bitterly disappointed not to find Dolphin Street listed, at least not in the alphabetical street section, which jumps from Doe Royd Lane to Don Avenue (page 140). Have looked at the end after Zion Lane in case printers had inserted it there - but no luck. (Broad Oaks, which ran across the bottom of Dolphin Street, is listed in the correct place.)

Has anyone found Dolphin Street in the 1925 Kelly's, or any other Kelly's from the early 1900s? Would be pleased to hear from you.

Have just used the search facility for Kelly's 1925 and there is no listing of Dolphin Street Gives the surname Dolphin approx 4 times but no street listing, i think you may be better of looking in the alpabetical section looking for the surname.

Thanks Greybeard - have read the thread you mentioned.
Gingerbarf - I've also looked in the alphabetical listing and not found the family listed there either! (Think the alphabetical listing is for business/tradespeople only.)

Thanks to all - and the Directory will be useful for my mother's side of the family tree !

Dolphin Street comes under the smaller streets and lanes and as well as courts are usually not listed.
Electoral Rolls would be a better bet at the library.

RETEP - sorry seem to have missed your reply sent last August. Thanks very much for that. Haven't done any work on the Dolphin St side of the family for a few months but quite clearly I need to visit Sheffield Library if I am to get any further.

LOCKET - what was Gt-Grandmother's surname, please?

WISBECH - thanks for your message too.

OK. Only name I can remember my Dad talking about was the Drake family (who kept ducks - and pigs as well I think). Dad's family name was Molloy.
