View Full Version : Living on burgers for a month - Supersize Me BoppinBruce 28-04-2005, 07:30 Supersize Me is on television tonight. Are you a burger eater and if so why? foo_fighter 28-04-2005, 07:35 Originally posted by BoppinBruce Are you a burger eater and if so why? Yes, because they taste nice. :) Why don't you start a poll: "Do you eat burgers, Yes/No". 21steve 28-04-2005, 07:39 that film/doc was strange. i found it horrible to watch, but it still really made me want burgers!? JonJParr 28-04-2005, 07:40 Once in a while (and I do mean once in a blue moon) I like to eat a good quality beefburger. Usually get those Aberdeen Angus ones from M&S and put some nice mature cheddar, red onion, lettuce and beef tomato on it. Couldn't stand the thought of eating a McDonald's though. Processed crap. I thought Supersize Me was entertaining and informative but perhaps not a worthwhile (or indeed probable) experiment. Then again, some Americans eat nothing but fast food. viking 28-04-2005, 07:41 Originally posted by BoppinBruce Supersize Me is on television tonight. Are you a burger eater and if so why? (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/viking99/forums/weightproblem.jpg) :( oh dear...terrible. AJ sheffield 28-04-2005, 11:08 I love Big Macs, dunno why really. I think I unconsciously buy into the stereotypical American image of the friendly family fast food experience when in reality its never that good. The service is nothing special and niether is the food but I still have to go in when I see one, just for research purposes mind you ;) BoppinBruce 28-04-2005, 12:33 Totally agree AJ, The same can be for jeans, buying into the American dream. There is a good read called 'The Jeaning Of America' that can equally apply to burgers. Macs in particular. There is also the selling psychology, You want to go in and buy, and when you are in there you want to eat and get out as soon as you can. It is to do with the table layout and colour scheme they use. It does nothing to encourage you to make a second visit to the counter, I would suggest very few people do make a second visit. Although I will not get involved in the pros and cons of the food, thats for you to reply, I understand that many many companies would like to copy the burger in and out experience. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/viking99/forums/weightproblem.jpg) I've seen this little girl on the Maury Povich show several times. She does have some sort of a glandular problem, it's not just too many Big Macs. He does segments on monstrously obese toddlers and babies. (mostly for the shock value and ratings) A few with the afore mentioned glandular problem....but unfortunately most of them victims of the parents overfeeding. I mean, if you're five years old and you're that overweight, whose fault is THAT? It's not like she gets in the car and drives to McDonald's herself, orders food and pays for it with her own money. IMO< this is child abuse. Poor kid. :) Sierra komal 30-04-2005, 22:34  that was very good what did people think? komal 30-04-2005, 22:40 ok they moved my post to here, but it makes me look stupider than I am by asking what people thought when theres already loads of what people thought about it already:suspect: I don't go to mcdonalds ever and never have except a few times as a kid but I just had fries and a veggie burger...they weren't even vegetarian either Kristian 30-04-2005, 23:14 Originally posted by komal ok they moved my post to here, but it makes me look stupider than I am by asking what people thought when theres already loads of what people thought about it already:suspect: One of the many penalties of not searching before making a posting! ;) As an aside, lots of MacDonalds food is now veggie suitable. There's a full ingredients listing on their website. 1Man&hisBMW 30-04-2005, 23:45 yum, nice greasy burger.. Don_Kiddick 02-05-2005, 08:14 For a challenge, I once (1992/3 ish) ate 5 Big Macs in one sitting - I could have managed more I reckon - but that was the challenge. :D This year I haven't been in MacDonalds at all & can't remember the last time I had a burger... Has anyone else done a Big Mac-a-thon and how many did you consume in one sitting? igm1 02-05-2005, 08:20 Originally posted by Don_Kiddick Has anyone else done a Big Mac-a-thon and how many did you consume in one sitting? My brother did that, I reckon he equalled your score. muddycoffee 02-05-2005, 08:26 When I was a student I was forced into McDons a couple of times as we had free tickets and one of our number was keen, but I was astounded by a few things. 1) how tiny the proportions were 2) the absense of any flavour at all 3) the fact that the place was busy why? After that day we went back to mrs B's shop next to the poly where we got massive hot home made sandwhiches for half the price and proper mug of tea. There was absolutely no comparison. Sausage egg mushroom onion beetroot was my favourite. . . . (on large). The place did such a roaring trade that they built a custom deluxe building next to the cossack. They were so successful that the embarrased, and emptying catering deparment of the Poly bought them out and it has stood there with the shutters down for 15 years ever since. venger 02-05-2005, 08:27 McDonalds ~ hmmmmm ~ Corporate slags ~ Good for hangovers though :( muddycoffee 02-05-2005, 08:35 I would like them to stop using the term restauraunt. To describe their outlets. I think that this is a distortion of what the word means. Restauraunt means to me :- waiters, tablecloths, made in sheffield knives and forks, nice crockery, free condiments (hendos of course) pot of tea out of a tea pot. Wine list, soup of the day, comfortable surroundings. And a tip for the service. Has anyone else done a Big Mac-a-thon and how many did you consume in one sitting? Five Big Macs in one sitting?!! Ay, dios mio! And you lived to tell about it. I once ate one, then split a second one with one of my kids, and felt a little sick after. Muddycoffee, I always like to hear the stories about people patronizing a small, local business rather than a huge, souless corporation. Sort of like David and Goliath. Why is McDonald's busy all the time? I've no idea. It's the same here in the states, and I haven't eaten there in years. :) Sierra |
