I wonder if any of the forum members had bought any specs from this company
http://www.glassesdirect.co.uk/
I used their site to apply for a catalogue which has some pretty impressive prices especially for the more senior members of the public who are not to worried at having designer frames. It would be interesting to hear your views on buying spectacles this way.If I remember correctly there was a TV program a few weeks ago about this company and the managing director said most of the spectacle frames were made in the Far East and if bought in the thousands would only cost pennies to buy. So are the big boys "Spec savers, Optical Express,Vision Express,Boots etc." ripping us off
You can get the sizes of your frames from the inside of the arms of your old specs and they can't be to critical because these are the sizes of the last few frames of mine over the last six years and I havent notice a difference in the wearing of them.
54 a square 15 135
53 a square 18 140
56 a square 16 140
52 a square 19 135
54 a square 16 145
All these sizes are millemetres
By a square I mean an image of a square
The first number is the the diameter of the lens this is not to important
The second number is the width of nose bridge
the third number is the length of the arms
Here is a few samples of prices for single vision specs.
Ordinary frames £25
Semi rimless £35
Rimless £45
Bendable £55
