View Full Version : The Demon Bus Driver.
Jabberwocky 12-08-2008, 18:49 In the 60s and 70s, we used to get the number 10 bus from Parson cross to town and back, and every now and again thered be a certain driver who had either suffered bad burns- I assume in the war- or had been born with a facial problem.
Crueller kids called him The Phantom of the opera and The screaming skull, but you know how cruel kids can be, and I even heared adults call him names- I remember one mother telling him off because her kid was too scared to board the bus when he was driving it, as if it was his fault or something.
On the whole he took a lot of abuse from people and I dread to think of the hassle he`d get from todays chavs and drunks
Does anyone remember him? I was going to add him to the Sheffield characters thread, but Id say this man deserved a thread of his own.
The Spactoid 12-08-2008, 19:20 If he's the one I'm thinking of then he used to give me nightmares. When I was a kid I'd look to see who was driving the bus well before I got on and if it was him then I'd wait for the next bus. He was very thin and pasty looking with a large bald patch and what hair he had was greased over and black. Phanton of the Opera would have suited him well.
Jabberwocky 12-08-2008, 19:24 Help me, help me, the spactoids have got my babyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!
The Spactoid 12-08-2008, 19:29 Not sure about the burns or facial problem. I think he was just an ugly b******
Jabberwocky 12-08-2008, 19:31 Someone is bound to remember him, eventually someone will mosey along and start wefting and theyll remember him.
okismoki 13-08-2008, 20:17 i remember a conductor on the 79/89 route(79 replaced the no. 10),he was a real skeleton face, really did look like the original phantom of the opera, even his workmates nicknamed him dr. death.
Dr Death was a driver at Herris Road garage, he came in to the garage one night saying he had just been offered sex by a woman on Yew Lane, we didn`t believe him but we found out later that what happened was when he opened the door to let this woman on she was so scared she said F**k me and ran away.
