Anybody know what is happening to St Johns church on Lound Side Chapeltown. I know services are being held in the Newton Hall, but surely the old place is not to be allowed to go to rack and ruin?

The old church (Where I got married first time) has been ruled unsafe. No visible work has been carried out there for the last 4 years+.

The church won't be bothered as they have a new one across from Chapeltown Libary.

Judging by the work being carried out, and the fact the the congregation has moved on, it appears that this is the plan :(

It's not as simple as that I'm afraid these things have to go through several church council meetings and the deanery etc and those wheels grind very slowly.

I've just asked my friend to attends this church - the building is now the responsibility of the Diocese of Sheffield - they may try to sell it off but your guess is as good as mine as to whether this will be successful or not (because it has a graveyard). So I'm afraid you will just have to wait and see what happens but don't expect it to be quick - things like that in the church never are.

Does anyone have any update on St Johns? Is it still neglected?
