can anyone help? I'm havin gproblems burning mpegs, avi's etc to dvd. I'm using nero to "transcode" them but when it's done (usually an overnight job) the dvd comes out all jumpy - with skips and such where it runs for 5 secs, pauses for a second so on. i have a 16x DVD writer, Athlon 1.3 ghz, 512 ddr ram. 80gb. 6.3.0.0 nero. thanks, Nick.

ok.

its jumpy due to a codec conflict.

does the avi/mpeg play in windows media player ok?

no delete your codecs and install 1 at a time until they do.

converting avi's is a mare, but i use winavi, it takes 45 mins and does the job, has direct ac3 too.

pm for exact help etc and ill sort it

For AVI's have a go with virtualdub (just google it). If the avi is a format that nero doesn't like, you can get vitualdub to save the avi into a more native codec. You'll end up with huuuge files, but that's because there is less compression, and less effort by the cpu etc to decompress the file (well it's already done!).

I tend to use seperate proggy's for avi - mpeg and authoring/burning -
Sorrenson squeeze, cleaner, tmpgenc. DVDLab etc..

It won't cure the jumps, but an Athlon 1.3 isn't the best processor for transcoding, you really need something newer to handle such a task.

Have you tried using quality branded DVDs at a low burning speed? I have noticed a significant difference in quality when recording at 8x compared to 2x.

Have a look at a prog called winavi, converts from avi to dvd tonnes quicker than anything else i've used and not had any probs with picture quality.

find and install the k lite codecs pack........i also use a dodgy angelpotion codecs pack :P

i also dont use nero to re encode videos cos that can be a cause of the multiplexing problem.....i use tmpgenc to re encode / chop videos

Yeah, sorry missed that:rolleyes:

I've just played back the DVD that I made from an AVI and every 10 minutes it jumps back about 3 mins. If I FF it back to it's original spot, it plays ok for another 10 mins then jumps back again so i get to see the film in 10 minute chunks.

ok as i said before.

1. does the avi play ok in wmp?
2. what software do you convert with? (dont use ur pc while you convert)
3. view the vobs in powerdvd or the like, does it look ok
4. have you tried with different disks? +, -, different makes
5. tried the dvds on ur pcs dvd rom drive

now you can narrow it down.

pm me if you want help
