My grandparents lived at 268 Queen Mary Road (their names were Pheobe and Ted Brown). My mother Betty joined the Wrens and she met my father who was from the South of England. I was born at 268 in 1947 and went to King Edward School (I think that was the name but the school was at the Manor top). I remember how we used to dig out the snow so we could walk to the road and how cold it was.

In a house on the right going to the manor top lived a man who made kites. We used to save our pocket money so we could buy a kite and fly it on the slag heap which was behind the houses oppoisite 268.

I left the Manor when I was 6 years old.

Can anyone remember the Brown family? Ted died in 1958 but Pheoebe lived there until around the mid-80s.

Can anyone remember the man who sold kites?
