Does anyone remember the Stick Man, he sold small bundles of sticks for people to light their coal fires.
He delivered them with a horse & cart, sometimes he let us ride on the cart.
He delivered around the Parson Cross area, late 40s early 50s.
Hi Irene\
Maybe someone on "Memories of the past" thread would remember.

Used to be one round Hillsborough but he only had a small barrow.Reputed to have had loadsa dosh when he died.
Me and my mate used to sell sticks when we were lads, in the good old days when there was a corner shop on just about every street. We used to get butter barrels from them and chop them up.Good wood that.
Yeah Irene, Poppins has reformed some of her ways, all we need now is for her to be less awkward :D

During the mid 40's (when I was just a lad) we used to have people coming round not just selling sticks but also with weighing scales and collecting rags.
Every now and again there used to be people start singing in the street and then passing their hats roung for a few odd coppers.
If the Tories get in next Thursday we could easily see this happen all over again!
