Hi All

I went to check on my Guinea Pigs earlier, and I noticed Chas (who usually scarpers into her house when I go near) was cuddled up to Dave and didn't flinch when I opened the cage.

When I looked at them I noticed that Chas's heart was beating really fast and she's making kind of a clicking (I can't describe it any other way)noise every time her heart beats, and its making her whole body move

I've not noticed it before, but its got me worried because she's just sitting there when i put my hand in to stroke them, which she doesn't normally do, and Daves breathing is fine.

Cna anyone put my mind at rest/give any advice? Is it normal? I've had Guinea Pigs before but never noticed it with them - and now Don't think I'm going to be able to get to sleep for fear of waking up and finding her dead or something!

No expert on these they should be at a rate of 240-350 beats per minute if you can hold her calmly and test it lol there about 3 times as fast as a human just keep her warm and calm sure some one will post soon

Clicking in guinea pigs can be one of two things. Either there's a breathing issue eg cold on the lungs, you'll be able to feel it as they are under the piggy, or something stuck in the throat. Both instances I'd suggest you take the little one to the vet and have it checked over. case 1 is treatable with anti biotics, case 2 should be easily sorted with a mouth clamp and some tweezers. I'd offer to take a look but I'm in Doncaster

Morning, Thankyou for your replies, I came downstairs this morning expecting to find her dead, but she seems alot happier than she did last night, her breathing seems to be back to what I remember it being like, an she's not moving with every breath and the clicking has gone.

She scarpered into the house too when I opened the cage and when I took her out she was trying to climb all over me so it looks as though she's brightened up. No idea what that was wrong last night but it definately isn't something I want happening again. I'm going to keep my eye on her today and see how she goes!

My guinea pig had something that sounds exactly like that, we took him to the vets and we found out he had pneumonia..... one course of antibiotics cleared it up though :D

She's fine now, back to her normal self. I think I can add her to the list of Freaks we have as pets!!!

There was probably something in the back of he throat, sounds like she managed to move it herself. Glad she's ok :)

Thankyou! I feel a bit silly now, but it scared me at the time because it was so odd and I'd never seen any of our others in the past like it, plus I didn't want to be left with just one pig as i've only had them 2 weeks, and they're sisters so Dave would've been lonely!

She's definately back to her ususal self - went to give them a bowl of veg this morning before I went to work and she shot into her house as soon as she heard me coming! She soon came out once she realised there was food involved though!
