I have read and herd mixed review's about feeding your dog tripe what do you guys think ?

Tripe is good food for dogs easily digested and nourishing, you do have to be careful because it can put weight on them though.

my bundles love tripe, also tripe chews, smells awful but they love it

Tripe is supposed to be good for dogs, but if you have staffies be wary of feeding too high protein in the diet, as reputedly this can make them more difficult to handle and a little 'hyper'

High protein is often recommended by word of mouth between staffy owners, but if you aren't using your dog for fighting, it may be something you wish to avoid ;)

It really does smell awful though doesn't it? and it reeks when they are eating it even the chews :gag: pity they like it so much.

Molly has recently fallen in love with both tripe and liver, after a whole year of not really being bothered about any food.

The smell may take some getting used to!

Cheers for the feedback. I thought i would buy some and see if my dogs liked the tripe or not. They loved it :gag: i hate it its discusting, the smell made me feel ill. One of the dogs had quite bad runs during the night so she wont be having the tripe anymore. I was just wondering if dogs have to be a certain age before feeding them this stinky stuff

I would never fight my dogs i love them to much for that foolishness. I have 2 Staffies and a bullmastiff. The Bullmastiff needs building up and someone said to try her on tripe, i did and it made her sick and have a upset tummy so no more tripe for her. However the staffies loved it. Arnie is 4 he is so fussy about his food usually, but he ate the tripe so fast i couldnt beleive it. So it cant be to bad. Thanks for the info about protein :thumbsup:

sorry but cant help laughing ,but the same happen to mine when i first introduced tripe ,so i boiled it for about 5 min & introduced it slowly & in small ammounts & after a couple of days they were fine with it , did you introduce it slowly or just let them have it at once ?, oh and if you thought it smelled try boiling it lol:gag::thumbsup:

Oh happy days!! Reminds me of when we had Staffies and fed them on tripe. None of this poncy, bought from a shop stuff, mind, but whole cow's stomachs (obtained by my dad) which came complete with undigested grass. :gag:

I'll never forget the foulness of cleaning them out in the bath and then chopping them up and boiling them before freezing. But it gave us a couple of months supply of free food, and the dogs thrived on it.

i feed mine boiled tripe and they love it, smells like some ones had the sh*ts though when its been boiled, foul stuff. We get ours from landywoods when we order Arthurs raw diet. annax

I understand when people say the smell is awful, but i have been reading up about feeding dogs commercial dog foods, and the damage it does to our pets. Im quite reluctant to feed them tinned food anymore. :confused:

the likes of Burns (holistic food) Wainwrights, JWB come very recommended.

Fresh cooked tripe dosn't smell.

If you think apres tripe smells rank, you'd never cope with the stench produced after the consumption of 6 raw egg whites a day :gag::gag::gag:
