I've been trying for days to get broadband at home, this morning I checked the BT line I have on their website, if I checked using my postcode they say I should be able to have broadband at my house, if I check using my phone number they say that the local exchange does not allow broadband!!!
WTF?!?!?!?!
how can a highly populated area of one of the largest cities in the country possibly have an exchange that cannot allow broadband... I refuse to believe that there are no other boradband users in my area at a time when most people have at least one PC and internet access.
BT are looking into it for me......
*waits for reply*
anyone else had similar problems?

Had a similar problem a couple of years ago, & was told it's "The British Broadband Law" which apparently was...

"if you can see farm animals out the window, you can't have it"

Thought it'd been revoked by now though :)

:(
I'm in deepest darkest Parson Cross, the only thing I can see out of the window is council houses... in every direction for miles...

You can get cable with Blueyonder in Parson Cross :) It's cheaper too.

Sadly I've just moved from them because they were insisting I take out a new full year contract with them (very long story) and I don't intend to stay in this house for that long, I won't be able to transfer the contract as I'm hopin got move to an area that hasn't got the wonders of telewest yet....
I also found that it would be cheaper with BT phone and BT broadband than the previous Telewest contract I had (basic everything!):suspect:

try this for broadband chaos.
ihave 2 phone numbers to my home both from mosbororugh exchange. 1 starts 248 1 starts 251.
on the 248 number i have dsl line @ 512mb on the other line i can't have broadband 'cos i'm too far from the exchange.
when i had isdn disconnected & broadband installed which meant bt had to dig up my drive to connect the second line the engineers confirmed both lines run to the same box on the rd & to the same exchnage.
figure that out.

Exactly, BT have no idea what they are doing half the time, I just got a call from them (finally) telling me there's no problem with me having broadband, in fact I can have it from next week!!!
Now what was all that rubbish about the local exchange not being up to it???
Grrrrr

That's still the case out here, but Bradfield ATE is supposed to be converted in June. Doubt if we'll be able to get any better then 512K though :(

This gets better lmao

I'm in Southey Green and my lines just been tested ok for a 4 meg line on the Wadsley Exchange

An instructor of mine is also on the Wadsley exchange and he's been told that he can't have broadband but he lives closer to the exchange that Rich does

Good old BT eh!!!

I guess their just not making enough money to get their act together and provide a 20th century solution to the information super-highway lol

I'm only on 512k though, they (Wanadoo) said we couldn't get 1 Mb.... :(

And even then we've been having connection problems until recently, damn thing kept disconnecting at random and would be off all night.. Even BT's tech support "expert" (and I use the term loosely) couldn't fathom what was wrong, apparently though it turned out that the router was knacked, so we got that fixed and now we have a permanent BB connection that (touch wood) never goes down.

Well I'm a lot closer to Ecclesfield so I guess I might be on that exchange tho i'm really not sure.
Just as I finally get BT to agree to give me broadband I've discovered plusnet have a much better offer and might now cancely my BT order and go with them... ah well, maybe it will make BT a little quicker next time...:suspect:

i live in shiregreen and i am on the ecclesfield exchange i`ve been with wannado(£27.99 a month) with plusnet (£21.99) and ive just asked uk online for prices they say £9.99 for 512k which is what im on now and £29.99 for 2 meg, altogether i`ve been on broadband for 3 years although plusnet are doing free speed upgrades to the fastest your line will take, so the moral of the story is shop round you will get a good deal cos you can have broadband

Go here, - (http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php) enter you postcode and click the check button, then hit the 'Locality' button and you'll see which exchange you're on

Some Sheffield area ATEs now have LLU, so you might be able to get Easynet or UKOnline broadband.
