being veggie we dont "do" sunday dinner, sometimes for tea we might have what can be construed as such, but not every week

and i really hate that old traditional thought of the "sunday" dinner

I didn't get to bed till 6am this morning, so have only recently woken up - hence my lunch today is a delayed breakfast of mushrooms on toast.

I've been doing DIY and am supposed to be shopping online right now but got sidetracked with SF, so i'm hoping my hub will decide to prepare and cook whatever he can catch in the kitchen !

Roast Beef
Yorkshire pud
Roast Potatoes
Roast vegetables
Gravy, aswell as Blood straight off the joint.
Followed by Chocolate Pudding with Chocoloate sauce.
Old School, and highly tastifying.

I love a roast dinner, but I never understand why people create so much about it and pretend it's a hard thing to make, because it's one of the easiest dinners. You just put meat in the oven, then put spuds on, then put veg on and then make gravy. You can spend most of the cooking time sat on your jacskie on the internet or in front of the TV ;) Fry-ups are the worst thing ever to cook because you can't leave frying eggs unattended and the grease goes bloody everywhere.

I'm liking the sound of FUTO's and Blaze's very yummily ... I'm having steamed asparagus tips, skinned tomatoes sweated in a little oil and chopped boiled egg all drizzled with low-cal salad cream, followed by a light-Alpen-summerfruits-bar-only-70-calories!

Then I shall probably run out later desperate for something really hideously bad for me and chock full of calories! :hihi:

Roast dinners are great, but there are 2 downsides in my humble opinion :D first the heat in the kitchen...gawd it's enough to melt a cat in my little house, and secondly the washing up :gag:

If you're feeling uber-lazy you can get nice roast spuds and parsnips ready frozen, and use tinned or frozen veg. ;)

That's why I can't be bothered in summer, it's just too hot to whack the oven up for a couple of hours.

FUTO, if I'm not mistaken you recently started a thread titled ' Becoming a vegetarian' :

Have been vegetarian for the past 3 months now. I was hoping to hear from some one who is a vegetarian and let me know how long they have been and how they are getting on

Yet you started this thread saying that you were having grilled salmon for dinner. I'm sorry to tell you but this means you are not a vegetarian, vegetarians categorically do NOT eat fish. I applaud your efforts to cut out meat from your diet and I hope you will proceed to eliminate fish as well. And who knows, eventually move on to cut out all products derived from animals sources and go vegan? ;)

I only pointed this out as each time someone is under the impression they're vegetarian when they continue to eat fish is mistaken, and it has the effect of perpetuating a false notion of what it really means to be a vegetarian.

I normally don't have roast dinners but we had some friends over so did roast chicken - covered in thyme, garlic and rosemary butter with lemon and bay leaves in the cavity, then the sauce was made from all the cooking juices and some white wine. Served with new potatoes, tenderstem broccoli and peas.

Lemon Posset with Ameretti biscuits for dessert

We had shepards pie with mashed veg hidden in it so the kids would eat it :hihi:

I work every Sunday so rarely have a proper Sunday dinne, but I do love it!

Even though I'm a veggie it doesn't mean I can't do the whole yorkshire pudding and gravy thing!

Slices of quorn roast, mash, roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding/baked pudding (depending on whether they are made with veggie suet), peas and cauliflower, stuffing, and loads and loads of veggie gravy. Yum:love:

I did a pot roast of beef, roast potatoes, carrots, green beans, cauliflower cheese and yorkshire pudding, all washed down with a sparking rose cava.
