So pleased for her she really is an exceptional athlete.

She has achieved so much in womens cycling, shame womens cycling is nowhere near as big as the male event as she would be a household name by now if it were.

well done Nicole!

Loved the bit where she took it easy round that final right hand bend and dropped back from the leaders.

The commentary as the group dissappeared behind the fencing for a short while, only to re-appear with Cooke making an attack, (and going on to win the 'sprint'), reminded me of Stephen Roche appearing round the corner at the finish at La Plagne in '87. Sent shivers up my spine.

And I'm sure she'd also like to thank whoever supplied her performance-enhancing drugs, without whom this triumph would never have been possible. Hats off to the UK's pharmacists!

That's exactly what I read about Floyd Landis, Marion Jones, Tim Montgomery, Ben Johnson and Carl Lewis, among countless others. They were all lying...

Ye of little faith, she's a good apple just because she rides a bike doesn't mean she has EPO on her cornflakes.

Nor it does, but that she can beat a whole bunch of cyclists who do means that only the very naive would take the achievement at face value.

Maybe its me but sometimes i get the feeling that some athletes dont take the Olympics as serious as they should & would rather be playing in some tournament elsewhere with millions of $$$$ up for grabs.

Oh well looks like young Tom Daley & that other guy bottled it.

Oh well looks like young Tom Daley & that other guy bottled it.I know what you mean. Andy Murray played shocking and just didn't appear to have his mind focused on the job in hand.

Think its a little unfair to say the diving pair bottled it. They dived ok but their dives didnt have the difficulty tariffs their opponenets dives had. Tom is only 14 and has been under intense media pressure since he was named in the squad. Maybe our expectations were a bit too high.........2012 might be a different story.

I think that could be part of the problem, the media have built him up so much. They should have just left him alone to get on with the job of diving.

Suppose it was inevitable really. He can only benefit from the experience though.

You would think; but when your vastly-more-experienced partner comes out and blames you for being completely useless and ruining his chance of a medal, and you're still in your early teens, there has to be a fair chance of being turned off the sport altogether.
