I have Zone alarm on my computer and have always been fine with it.

Today I ran a 'Zone Alarm system check-up' program. This identified lots of problems on my computer - and to be honest, most of them made sense (my computer's not been performing as well as usual and my internet's sometimes a bit crap despite having 20mb broadband)

Some of the things identified were really specific, so it made me think that this might not be just a gimmick.

Anyway it recommended that I download 'System Mechanic' which will help me fix all these problems and make my computer run much faster. It's $19.95.

Should I download it? Will it help? Is it likely to be easy to use?

I definitely wouldn't purchase 'System Mechanic' There are FREE alternatives...Try CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds/downloading-slim)
This is a direct link to the slim version of CCleaner (no Yahoo toolbar)

Actually, System Mechanic is a pretty good piece of SW, especially for the novice user:thumbsup:

System mechanic is great and its free for 30 days so download it, let it do what it wants, then if you decide it's worth it pay for it. It will have solved your problems on the first run so no need to buy a the full version unless you need it again after 30 days when it will have expired.
