View Full Version : Blades and Owls so hated.
Rocklegend 09-08-2008, 14:45 Reading 4 4 2 magazine this week I noticed that Weds are hated by Blades(obviously),Dingles,Donny and Rotherham....In todays Sun a survey shows that Blades are the 17th most hated team in England (for some reason Stockport are in the top 20 as well.)I can understand a certain L**ds being top but wondered why Sheffields clubs fared so badly.
Earwiggo 09-08-2008, 15:04 Certain managers and supporters have not been the best ambassadors for the red and white 1/3rd of Sheffield.
The 'Battle of Bramall Lane' was a disgrace, and showed United in a very bad light. Things like this, take a long time to forget. For these reasons alone, It's understandable that the rest of the country dislike United a bit.
As for other local teams supporters, it's not 'hate' for Wednesday and United, it's just envy.
Nationally, I've not met many supporters who dislike Wednesday. On the whole, we're a well liked and respected club.
Where were Wednesday in this 'table'?
Are they in it?
Rocklegend 09-08-2008, 15:09 I can't remember what the source of the survey was so I can't look it up on the net.The Sun only printed the top 20 which Weds weren't in.
discodown 09-08-2008, 15:12 Scunthorpe were the 10th most hated club. What have they ever done to anyone?

Wednesday weren't in the top20 so I don't know where they were but United will be "hated" because of the Tevez palava and because of Neil Warnock who was a master of annoying the hell out of people.
Nice to see L**ds claim their rightful place ;)

Sheffield in general is not well liked I don't think. Many outsiders wrongly see Sheffield as a grey industrial city when it isn't at all and we are often ignored by the national media and papers despite being the 4th biggest city in England (there is a debate about the size of Sheffield on another thread so if you don't agree with the '4th biggest' please don't post on here). I think the general dislike of Sheffield filters through to a dislike of the football teams but it isn't the only reason.
Neil Warnock is undoubtedly one of the most despised managers (I like him) and he definitely made enemies of himself and Sheffield Utd. while our manager - I think this carries on at present as he isn't long gone. I think as well people see the 'Tevez affair' as desperation by Utd. and hold this against us as well. I think we were unfairly treated but I don't want to debate this as it's long gone - just mentioning it as a possible reason to the dislike of Utd.
As a blade I am not fond of the owls (obviously) but I can think of no major reason why clubs outside yorkshire would dislike Wednesday. I don't particularly like to admit it but I would be making things up otherwise.
For me personally I dislike clubs that think they are owed something and are portrayed in the media as being better than what they actually are i.e Liverpool for the last 20-ish years but also Everton as well. Another reason I get wound up is the alleged atmosphere in certain grounds as with Newcastle - I don't dislike them particularly because of this but I think this thinking must be at least 20 years old as the atmosphere never seems anything special. Tottenham for me have the consistently best and most partisan atmosphere in the Premiership.
Neither Utd or Wednesday fall into the categories of 'think they are bigger than what they are' or 'overhyped atmosphere' though.
Floridablade 11-08-2008, 14:45 The Sheffield fans hate each other which is all too readily displayed on these threads and hate has a way of spreading. Sheffield football fans should respect each others achievments and promote Sheffield as a unified city then it would start to be recognised by the media. Sheffield has a lot to be proud of so why not flaunt it.
Earwiggo 11-08-2008, 14:50 Dimitri and Florida Blade....

I don't dislike Barnsley. I gladly helped Rotherham with a few quid a couple o' years ago to help them survive, and IMO, anyone who doesn't have respect and admiration for Donny, their Chairman, their manager, their players and their fans, has no soul, no heart .... an probably no brain!

I agree with you there m8 ive been to White hart Lane a couple of times, its a very tight ground and they hardley ever stop singing.
Upton park is another ground in the capitol which can be very intimidating.
Millwall is another just because of it being bang in the middle of a london housing estate.
Charlton used to be pretty bad aswell, until they got there new ground.
