View Full Version : Dwp literacy test
wzup1 09-08-2008, 01:14 AM hi everyone, new to this forum lol, anyway i need some serious help with the dwp literacy test, i've passed the numeracy test first time round but i cant seem to get myself through the literacy test, i've flopped again the second time round. i went for the EO post (personnel advisor) on both occassions, i just cant get my head round the literacy test lol, any1 else havin any problem with the literacy test or is it just me ?? i need atleast 11 marks out of 15, the two occassion when i sat the test, i can just about make out 8 mistakes or so, it highlights on the instruction spelling and grammatical errors (does full stop also come under this, in other words ppl who have sat the test have you guys come across any other errors apart from spelling if so please elaborate ie if its full stops or capital letters etc) i sound really dumb lol, jus wana get through the damn assessment lol
rubydazzler 09-08-2008, 01:55 AM You could try using a full stop occasionally? Capitalising the personal pronoun might be an idea, too? Double checking your answers before you click on send, if it's an online test. You've missed the 'g' off 'having' and the 't' off 'just' ... only typos obviously, but pc programs are never merciful!
I've not taken the test myself so I can't give any personal experiences, can you post any of the questions for us to look at?
Best of luck for next time. :)
ps welcome to SF btw, just noticed this is your first post!
Old_Bloke 09-08-2008, 01:58 AM If it's a literacy test I can't see why it wouldn't include punctuation and correct capitalisation as well as spelling and grammar.
By the way, it's personal adviser.

It might be 'personnel' though, you know, advising the workers?
jonesy43 22-08-2008, 06:00 PM Nope the job title is definately a 'personal adviser'. Personal as in you advise one to one with the client. Personnel is do with HR.

What you say is logical, but it's Personal Adviser. DWP's HR people aren't called Personnel Advisers. :)
jonesy43 22-08-2008, 06:49 PM This my job and I am a 'personal advisor' it is definately personal and not personnel. If you are struggling with the literacy test, you might struggle with the job. There is a lot of paperwork involved, and form checking. Maybe try going for the AO role, admin officer and then apply for promotion once you are already working there.
jonesy43 22-08-2008, 07:09 PM Also it might be worth noting that a lot of the test is to see if you are reading and checking everything properly. If you are scan reading a task and not going all the way down to the bottom, you might find that what you are being asked to do is totally different to what you thought the question was. Sometimes the last few sentance ask you to do something else. A lot of people fail the tests for this reason.
tambles 28-08-2008, 02:40 PM Hi wzup1 :)
I sat and passed the DWP literacy test a few months ago, and, from what I remember, the majority of the errors to find were of the spelling kind. The others were basic punctuation errors (postcode not fully capitalised at top of letter, missing capital letter after full stop, 'faithfully' not capitalised at end of letter..). I wouldn't look into other punctuation much though, to be honest, because I noticed commas were a bit lacking in any case!
Best of luck :)
