melthebell 07-08-2008, 18:52 cant remember if weve done this already so........
What music reminds of of a particular person, time or place?
heres some of mine
Exploited - lets start a war (reminds me of hanging aroun on ballifield in the mid 80s and going to my mates house up handsworth road as it was the first time id heard it)
stuff like the business, early oppressed, one way system and albums like the punk and disorderly albums (me and my mates used to hang around beighton, swallownest, woodhouse etc blasting all that stuff out on a ghetto blaster)
death in june - the world that summer (reminds me of my best mate in woodhouse and his brother gave me this album cos he didnt like it, wish id kept it too :( )
exploited - army life (when i used to live on city road in 1988, we'd blast that out full blast cos there was a bus stop outside the house and army cadets used to wait there :evil :)

You need to read this book Mel. A true music fan should not associate any records with any moments as your favourite music you should play that much that they have no significance for you and therefore do not mean any break ups/first dances/snogs etc.
However lets face it, lots of them do. :hihi:
Going out Friday my two schoolmates said they can't listen to Careless Whisper George Michael without thinking of me. i had a t shirt with Georgie Porgies face on and they all used to borrow it. :hihi:
Ones for me:
Silver Lady David Soul. - I cried when this record was knocked off the number one spot- for ages. I was just 6! Think it was obvious i was going to have music obsession then.
Hello Lionel Richie... a schoolgirl crush! lol!
Hey you the rock steady crew... my school best mate. she copied it from me and had a whole C90 tape dedicated to it.
True Spandau Ballet... school discos and snogging. Same with Zoom Fat Larry's band.
Rain or shine five Star ... ice skating. Same with True Blue and Final Countdown.
Get up off our knees Housemartins - my first proper gig. remember shouting my head off.
Roadblock SAW... a very heavy night at the leadmill at far too young an age. Same with Labour of Love. Hue and Cry.
Long Hot summer Paul Weller...That feeling of being 18.
Ride on time.. Black Box A lairy night at Roxys.
Hear the drummer get wicked. Chad Jackson. Girls holiday abroad. Also Wait by the Blow Monkeys.
Rhythm is a mystery K Klass- buying my place. ??
Wouldn't believe your radio Stereophonics ... a very happy and content day in 2001.
Hey boy Hey girl chemical Bros... another really great night in the leadmill - lots of songs remind me of the period when i was practically living there.
Laid James - reminds me of my mate C as she loves it.
Are you gonna be my girl? Jet A night at South in Manchester.
Funky_Gibbon 07-08-2008, 19:27 There's one song that particularly reminds me of a time. Every time I hear Alright by Supergrass I remember the first time I went out with my new friends from college. We were in Berlins, we've had a few alcopops to drink already (2 for 1 with a Yorkshire Terrier bus ticket) and this song came on and we all went into a huddle, arms around each others shoulders, singing it at the top of our lungs. It always reminds me of good friends and a great time in my life.
Then Smells Like Teen Spirit came on and we went mental...
Another time I can think of is the worst night of insomnia I've had. I'd been listening to Depeche Mode's Violator album quite a lot and one night the songs from that album were just stuck in my head and wouldn't stop. I haven't been able to listen to that album since because I just associate it with that terrible night.
Amazing Grace - sung by anybody but especially Harry Secombe or Judy Collins, right upsets me that song cos it reminds me of my Grandad's funeral!
We All Stand Together - Paul McCartney, I remember it cos it was the record I took to my first School Disco at Rivelin Juniors just before Christmas 1982.
Fivetide 07-08-2008, 22:00 Weirdest one I have is Debut - Bjork. It reminds me of the people I knew in sixth-form, but it reminds me of them before I knew them. Huh?!
maniclee 08-08-2008, 21:58 "A Good Heart" by Feargal Sharkey always reminds of Sheff Utd winning 5-1 away at Oldham in 1985. It must have been played on the tannoy at half-time.
A lot of songs have become holiday soundtracks for me.
Spitting Games - Snow Patrol. I always think of driving from Skeggy to Stratford upon Avon to attend my mates wedding when I hear this.
America - Razorlight reminds me of a day spent at Chapel St Leonards.
I'd better stop now. I could spend the rest of my life writing this post.
I've got my Zen on random and Billy Idol White Wedding just came on! It reminds me of being sat on the school bus on stinking hot days and legging it off to grab a fistful of icepops from the shop as soon as it pulled into the local bus station to pick up the kids from the other high school, and panicking in case the bus left without you.
Jabberwocky 09-08-2008, 12:11 The Time album by ELO always reminds me of a girl called Kay I went out with in 1981.
I bought a Walkman and she bought me the album to go with it. I was 21 and she was 17 and shortly after she got me the tape I jacked her in because I felt wierd going out with someone so young.
I still have the tape and I have the album on mp3 and whenever I listen to it I think of her. She was lovely and I was stupid for dumping her for such a ridiculous reason.
Killing me softly by the fugee's reminds me of being about 8 and singing it at the top of my voice in my friends kitchen.
Oasis- the whole of "whats the story" reminds me of my dad
Jump Around- House of pain- many a night in corporation goin mad to that!

catzeyesF 09-08-2008, 14:32 This reminds me of the almighty.

Jabberwocky 09-08-2008, 14:34 Queens sheer heart attack album reminds me of the first girl I went out with, she gave me the album and it was the first one I owned.
Im sure that people who have read the thing on Facebook, the story about our times together will know the lady Im on about, she was a red-headed demon but lovely with it.

Ednak is Bart's teacher in The Simpsons.
But yes, all teachers are old before their time at work. But 21 is ancient when you are ten.

Thats what i mean about age , I rememeber a teacher at school and i was sure he was ready for retirement and yet he's still teaching .I'm now 40 so goodness knows how old he was when he was teaching me lol
