View Full Version : The Sheffield Steelers megathread - all things Steelers in here! scott94 07-08-2008, 09:48 anyone a steelers fan on here? if so what do you think to the squad this season? Imelda 08-08-2008, 17:19 Hi , quite a few of us on here . In answer to your question though , I think we ll have all we need in terms of skill , but whether we are tough enough .. Im not sure. Theres a fans Q & A session with Matty next Wednesday night at Ice Sheff , hopefully he will be able to answer all our questions , and of course we ll get a little hockey fix while we wait for the season to start :hihi: scott94 09-08-2008, 20:37 yeah true, i think that is a big question that needs answering. nathan gillies looks like he can handle himself, but how would he do against the likes of clouthier, voth, and all the hull heavyweights?! i proposed this question in an article i wrote, check it out if you like: http://www.prohockeynews.com/hockey/publish/hockeyuk/Scott_Antcliffe.shtml Imelda 09-08-2008, 22:51 Dont think you can ever plan for playing against Voth , he s a law unto himself, although I would have welcomed him if he was wearing teal and orange this season. Maybe Basiuk will fancy his hand against Cloots?. I will have to see the team in action to decide if we re tough enough , but it is a worry. However if the other teams are gooning it up , it wont be long before they slide down the table as their players receive pens and bans.:hihi: beddoe79 10-08-2008, 06:49 I personally can't wait for the start of the season - although we'll miss it due to being on holiday. Glad Joey's back though. It'll be good to see Cornish again even if he's playing against us. scott94 11-08-2008, 13:24 Dont think you can ever plan for playing against Voth , he s a law unto himself, although I would have welcomed him if he was wearing teal and orange this season. However if the other teams are gooning it up , it wont be long before they slide down the table as their players receive pens and bans.:hihi: Yeah true, Voth is a great player, a complete player! kind of in the mould of Scott Allison but more intimidating! I think Hull will do alot better this year than last year, i think they will finnish infront of edinburgh, and maybe even looking at about 7th. :D scott94 11-08-2008, 13:25 I personally can't wait for the start of the season - although we'll miss it due to being on holiday. Glad Joey's back though. It'll be good to see Cornish again even if he's playing against us. same here, i miss the preseason games, and the first league game against the caps! gutted! I agree on Cornish, i always liked him, sure he wasnt the greatest of players, but he knew his role and didnt complain about the lack of ice time like cloots did! he always gave 110% and will do for the Bison. beddoe79 11-08-2008, 17:18 same here, i miss the preseason games, and the first league game against the caps! gutted! I agree on Cornish, i always liked him, sure he wasnt the greatest of players, but he knew his role and didnt complain about the lack of ice time like cloots did! he always gave 110% and will do for the Bison. I loved Corny's chicken dance to Shmyr last year. He knew exactly what he had to do. Quite like Buzz though - we sat behind the penalty box for the last match against Panther's last season and he was funny to watch - the way he carried on taunting the panther's player who he fought with. Can't wait for this year though - hopefully we can build on our playoff success. Marksteeler 11-08-2008, 18:05 People just be warned, buy your tickets in advance, walk up price on the night is £14.95 as to the new season, i think we will do well but am not to sure with jody back in goal scott94 12-08-2008, 12:10 People just be warned, buy your tickets in advance, walk up price on the night is £14.95 as to the new season, i think we will do well but am not to sure with jody back in goal yeah that was my only concern mark about lehman, and a lack of size with the forwards. hopefully i will be prooved wrong on both but time will tell Imelda 12-08-2008, 15:21 Well people , what do we reckon to todays bombshell , Andrew Sharpe , played last season for Romford and for Blaze. He got completely battered by JC !!! If he plays just within the enforcer role , with limited ice time I think it might work. Although got to say the guy needs to work on his attitude a little. One game last season against Scims he thought it was cool to fire pucks at them during warm up. Firm grip I think Matty!!!! As to the Jody debate , Matty must have looked for a replacement as it was public knowledge Jody was trying to get a more lucrative contract elsewhere, maybe he thought there was no NM any better around. Marksteeler 12-08-2008, 17:59 I didnt think Sharpey did that bad against Cornish stood up, just the sort of instigator nasty so and so we need, V Devils get him straight into Voth, They lose Voth we lose a brit kid big deal, i think this is great business, He'll def get bums on seats, Likes to start fights in the warm up to, scott94 12-08-2008, 18:18 im happy with the signing of sharp a tenth forward, who gives us versatility! hes not gonna light up the scoreboard, but he sure knows his role! way i see it is, hes not in the league of voth, clouthier, cornish, but i'd rather have sharp sit out 5minutes for fighting rather than munn, gillies or finnerty! If he fights someone like voth, it'd be a great trade to have voth out of the game for a minimum of five minute. even if anyone turns down the invitation to fight sharpe, he's still wound up the opposition, like the chicken dance corny did to shymr in nottingham! the crowd gets into it more, it gives the bench a morale boost! win win situation! as long as he doesnt take any daft penalties, this will prove to be a very good signing! Marksteeler 12-08-2008, 18:58 But do you think the oppositions enforcers will turn him down? he skates out asks them to dance, they turn it down what does it say about them turning down a fight with a young kid scott94 12-08-2008, 20:13 But do you think the oppositions enforcers will turn him down? he skates out asks them to dance, they turn it down what does it say about them turning down a fight with a young kid thats what im saying, i mean what has voth, cloots, corny got to prove by fighting a 24year old brit kid? what have they got to get out of it? they cant really test themselves. but from this if they do decline sharpe, this will give us a morale boost, just the way corny did, when shymr turned him down in nottingham, making the panthers look like fools! whereas if they do fight sharpe, we have got the best out of it by having a skilled enforcer off the ice for five minutes, i.e voth, crucikshank( someone who is an offensive threat, not just a one dimensional enforcer) compared to our tenth forward brit kid, i know which i'd rather have. :):) Marksteeler 12-08-2008, 20:18 if they turn him down though it will have a knock on effect through the league though as well say voth turns him down next night payette will be in his ear all night long about it, im sure theyll have to stand up and be counted Imelda 12-08-2008, 22:29 whereas if they do fight sharpe, we have got the best out of it by having a skilled enforcer off the ice for five minutes, i.e voth, crucikshank( someone who is an offensive threat, not just a one dimensional enforcer) compared to our tenth forward brit kid, i know which i'd rather have. 12-08-2008 07:58 PM Thats what I mean about him playing his role.If we can afford him , and we ve got space on the roster , I think Mattys pulled a good one . scott94 13-08-2008, 17:48 if they turn him down though it will have a knock on effect through the league though as well say voth turns him down next night payette will be in his ear all night long about it, im sure theyll have to stand up and be counted yeah i see what you mean but i guess only time will tell, im still not sure whether hes our asset, i.e. will play predominantly for us, and then scimitars when we arent playing or vice versa! im not sure, but from what matsos says on the website it sounds like hes our asset Imelda 13-08-2008, 22:37 Been to the fans meet with Matty tonight. A summary ( of what I can remember) Players lost the Play off cup on their return to sheffield , Matty had to ring a few pubs till they eventually found it lol. Sharpe is under no illusions why he s here. Matty said he cant wait to get cracking on home ice!! He s pleased Florence has got the chance as a starting goalie. Warrens decision to leave ,Mattys glad he s gone with the Scims, he s forging a good working relationship with Ron, working with him on the 2 way contracts. Very pleased with the shirts ( no clues about colour or style etc). Legue signed within a week of play offs. Looking forward to getting a new rink, as hopefully it will give fans more time to meet players etc , at restaurants on site after games. Home Ice whenever we want it. Nathan Gillies is all fired up and cant wait to come over , we got him just before he signed for Manchester. Matty and Okie did fly over to France to see Bronsard play , after Jody told them he was seeing what else was available to him. Dowd going to get plenty if ice time. Sure there was lots more , but cant remember offhand lol. But all in all a very confident Matty , reiterating all the time on the "fit" of the team, all the players are very keen to get back. They ll all be here by next Monday apart from Randy who ll be here next Tuesday.:hihi: Sally-Pie 14-08-2008, 16:08 Ha! finally found a Steelers thread. I am looking forward to seeing the team on the ice before I make any decisions about them. I have to ask what other people think about the new rink in Rother Valley? It's going to be a complete pain in the buttocks for me to get there, but I can see why the team needs their own ice. scott94 14-08-2008, 16:36 Ha! finally found a Steelers thread. It's going to be a complete pain in the buttocks for me to get there, but I can see why the team needs their own ice. im happy about the new rink, its about ten minutes walk from my house, so cant wait! makes it easier for me to train aswell! As for the team needing their own ice, i believe we do aswell sally-pie. the arena continues to charge us extortionate rent costs for games (hence smaller games at ice sheffield) last year for the first year in the clubs history it broke even finance wise, so to move forward as a club financially it makes more sense, the team can rent out the ice to other teams, and public sessions, thus creating more money.......hopefully. Sally-Pie 15-08-2008, 12:52 I agree wholeheartedly with you and it makes complete sense, I'm just (very selfishly) disappointed that the location isn't a bit more central. I know a lot of the supporters live relatively nearby or within easy access but as a Nether Edge girl it's a 45 minute drive for me. Each way. I'd better clarify, it's a 45 minute drive the only way I know how to get to the area. I'm not sure the public transport links are so good either. Swings and roundabouts, eh? scott94 15-08-2008, 14:05 I agree wholeheartedly with you and it makes complete sense, I'm just (very selfishly) disappointed that the location isn't a bit more central. Swings and roundabouts, eh? yeah true, i can understand why you'd be frustrated at the location. The 45 minute drive you know, which wya would you go? through heeley-gleadless-mosborough? that way? because i think that would be the most direct from youre area Sally-Pie 15-08-2008, 14:44 I've only just discovered the mosborough way and keep getting lost! The way I know best is to head out on the parkway and via the A57 as this is the way to the A1. I think I'm just a little frustrated that I don't get to make as many games as I'd like because of my job, I'll miss the start of this season because my rota's already done for September, and with the new ice being so far away from me I'll probably miss more in the future than I do now. I'm going to print off the fixtures list now and start negotiating with my boss, oh joy! beddoe79 19-08-2008, 07:51 Did anyone go last night? What are the new shirts like? jacks 19-08-2008, 09:31 What joy :mad: Not 'exclusive' enough to be allowed to see the new team and shirts... Forum down :suspect: so we cant even get the opinions of the people who WERE invited  plus im not gonna get to a game till 13th sept :cry: Just hope they've not broke my spotlight either :D Jacks jayboy SSHOF 19-08-2008, 10:22 Ha! finally found a Steelers thread. A shameless plug i know but, do you know there is a second Steelers forum over on The Official Sheffield Steelers Hall of Fame website I cant post links due to this being a new account and it not allowing url links:mad: but just search for sshof forum or sheffield steelers hall of fame. maybe once you find it a regular member could post a link.. sshof.co.uk/forum/ (just add the www :D) It is a very friendy forum and there is a steeltalk thread for those trying to catch up with news about the difficulties of that forum going down.. :suspect: and there will be a shirt thread shortly were i will post the pictures of the new shirts and of course put photos of the whole shirt/ meet the team night in the photo gallerys over on the main site .hallofsteel.co.uk (just add the www :D) jacks 19-08-2008, 10:32 There ya go Jayboy.... http://www.sshof.co.uk/forum/index.php  jayboy SSHOF 19-08-2008, 10:48 Cheers mate.. you forgot the main website though :hihi: jayboy SSHOF 19-08-2008, 11:00 Did anyone go last night? If you go onto the main Sheffield Steelers website, you'll be able to see pictures of the jerseys. Word of warning for anyone who has never been to Ice Hockey before and have clicked on the above link to the SSHOF, not everyone who goes to Ice Hockey is 'cliquey' as you will find the majority of people on there. jayboy SSHOF 19-08-2008, 12:00 And not everyone is as clearly loopy as you are you sad plank!!:loopy: It is not at all as you described and you know it!! the sshof forum and website is open to all (without thier own agenda) to join... :) david_hgvcc 19-08-2008, 12:09 Sorry, description remains, and has been proven with the abusive defence of said group!!! jayboy SSHOF 19-08-2008, 12:14 What ever Dave!! Yet again you just prove to anyone reading that you have issues with SSHOF That fact you feel the need to "warn people" about 'cliquey' we are supposed be is bording on an obsession.. Keep taking the tablets mate it will pass....:loopy: david_hgvcc 19-08-2008, 12:38 What ever Dave!! Yet again you just prove to anyone reading that you have issues with SSHOF That fact you feel the need to "warn people" about 'cliquey' we are supposed be is bording on an obsession.. Maybe it is you with the problem!!! jayboy SSHOF 19-08-2008, 12:43 why else would you "warn" people about somthing that doesnt exist!! I will leave it there and let other people draw there own conclusions as always... :D david_hgvcc 19-08-2008, 12:54 I will leave it there and let other people draw there own conclusions as always... :D Because you cannot back your statements with any fact nor substance, and this would be where other SSHOF folk come in to help you out of an argument. jayboy SSHOF 19-08-2008, 13:08 what ever  scott94 19-08-2008, 13:24 can you guys not bitch on here please! take it to Private messages, rather than aering youre dirty laundry in public jayboy SSHOF 19-08-2008, 13:29 Shirts are on forum now if anyone cares to take a look :) New steelers shirts (http://www.sshof.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=540) Jay steelhead4 20-08-2008, 04:41 Word of warning for anyone who has never been to Ice Hockey before and have clicked on the above link to the SSHOF, not everyone who goes to Ice Hockey is 'cliquey' as you will find the majority of people on there. And you dont think you have a problem with them ? ROFLMAO :loopy: Marksteeler 20-08-2008, 11:26 Dan Tessier has signed for the Panthers, wonder what there fans will be saying!! jayboy SSHOF 20-08-2008, 11:31 Like we didnt see that coming!!! after all he said I bet he now uses the "The Steelers treated me bad at the end of the season" card :loopy: steelhead4 20-08-2008, 12:09 Well we did treat him bad , we said we didnt want him back ! :) jayboy SSHOF 20-08-2008, 12:35 thats not really treating him "bad" Coaches tell players every year that they are not going to be part of the team next year. It works both ways now days, any player that recieves a better contract offer can walk away from a club also. so saying they dont want him back, is not treating him bad! They way it was done may lend some substance to any statment, but thats another subject! :D scott94 20-08-2008, 13:26 Was no surprise really. I bet they knew he was coming back earlier in the summer and that it was all signed then. Makes no difference to me, 1 player doesn't make a team. It'll just be funny seeing all those fans that were waving the notes at him, theres gonna be alot of humble pie ate in nottingham come september!!! :D:D steelhead4 20-08-2008, 14:33 Not sure why there should be any fuss. tessier is a good player but we have played against good players many times before and won. Sally-Pie 20-08-2008, 15:31 Honestly, I don't check the thread for a couple of days and you boys get nasty! I'm liking the teal shirt but I have to say I was never that bothered about Dan Tessier and I'll definitely not be bothered about him playing for the Panthers. Perhaps I'm being a little harsh... Imelda 26-08-2008, 21:30 Well , been to pick my season tickets up today. Also bought a new shirt , they are really nice. Had a nice chat to Okie , top bloke. Marksteeler 26-08-2008, 21:40 this season there is to be four officials, and if sunday is anythin to go by it will be a farce, the refs will be on a power trip espcially Carson, he gave that many pens in the last 5 mins on sunday he'd forgotton who was in the box for what, threw players out that werent meant to be Imelda 26-08-2008, 21:44 Was nt there for the games , we ve been away. But thats Elite refs for you , but whats our alternative , we re stuck with them Im afraid. jayboy SSHOF 26-08-2008, 22:12 It was the carson show!! the guy just lost the plot, it took him nearly 5 mins of stoped play to sort out 2 penaltys Imelda 26-08-2008, 22:19 Hi Jay , Im in your elitetist movement!!!!::thumbsup: Marksteeler 27-08-2008, 06:14 Carson was crazy, one of the linesmen skated sharpe over to the bench but he didnt even get kicked out of the game, scott94 19-09-2008, 21:42 steelrs vs panthers tomorrow cant wait!!! We are playing Belfast and hope to keep hold of our standing ............. AT THE TOP OF THE LEAGUE !!!!!:hihi: Marksteeler 01-12-2008, 22:10 this is a real four pointer game, were four points clear but the belfart giants have 2 games in hand Ryan001 04-12-2008, 20:01 hi i aint been into ice hockey long and there is one thing i want to know What is the difference between elite and in house hockey?? Who else here went to the last steelers vs coventry blaze game?? 4-1 mate Imelda 04-12-2008, 22:18 Sheffield Steelers play in the Elite League.(Arena) The Sheffield Scimitars play in the Epl , English Premier League.(Ice Sheffield) In House is a game of hockey played by two teams from the same Ice Hockey Academy , in junior level this means that the 12 A play 14 B , 10 s play 12 B .Im sure it carries on all through the various ages. In the past the Steelers ran an In House session on a Monday night at Ice Sheffield for all age groups . Players didnt have to be members of a team. I think this session still happens but not sure of the Steelers involvement. Imelda 09-12-2008, 22:10 Steelers V Pheonix Weds( tomorrow). Season Ticket holders can bring a child for free , upon redemption of a voucher from st booklet. All other kids "for a quid" with a paying adult. Lets go Steelers !! Ryan001 09-12-2008, 22:30 cheers for the infomation and does anyone know if it is able to be watched on tv?? do you still have to do that skate thing before that steelers in house thing?? cheers Imelda 09-12-2008, 22:33 Dont think its the Sky game this week , havent heard it mentioned if it is. Again , not sure about level of skating needed for In House , but a quick call to Ice Sheff would clear it up for you. Ryan001 09-12-2008, 22:34 ahh cheers arnt you that person who was helping me find out about ice hockey on my little forum?? anyway cheers for the info i will phone them up tomorrow Imelda 09-12-2008, 22:39 ahh cheers arnt you that person who was helping me find out about ice hockey on my little forum?? Ryan001 04-01-2009, 21:16 hi im going to the learn to play ice hockey lessons tomorrow it should be fun who else is goin? Marksteeler 08-03-2009, 21:50 Steelers have tonight been confirmed as champions steelers win 4 1 and coventry lose. Predictions? I reckon we ll win Devils in the semis and play Coventry in the final.( Or is that just too optimistic?):hihi: dutiame 14 02-04-2009, 15:48 Best of luck to the Steelers this weekend in Nottingham. They will take good heart that they have won the league and unlike the other 3 teams in the semi`s we have not got as much pressure as the other 3 have yet to win a trophy this season.Obviously we have pressure too but we have handled it all year thus far.Go Steelers!! BananaSplit 03-04-2009, 07:15 I think it could work the other way, as in, because we have won the league there is too much pressure on us because we are expected to win the Playoffs too. Anyone else on the 0938 train tomorrow morning down to Nottingham? Imelda 03-04-2009, 23:53 We re going down early in the morning , cant check into the hotel till after 2pm , so need a parking pog somewhere . BananaSplit 04-04-2009, 20:38 Weyhey the final we all wanted! Steelers Vs Panthers! beddoe79 05-04-2009, 16:44 Congratulations Guys. Really happy that you have got the double, especially as the playoff final against Panthers. AndrewC 05-04-2009, 19:17 Well done Steelers! Imelda 05-04-2009, 23:11 What an end to a fabulous weekend , dont think the "Dancing on Ice" patrons knew what had hit them as they left to arena to be met with about 1000 Steeler fans singing and chanting lol. Well done guys !!! BananaSplit 06-04-2009, 08:58 Lol Imelda! I think they were especially bemused by the "We're all feeling Randy" chant! Had a brilliant weekend. Can hardly speak and got a bit of a headache (!) this morning but it's been absolutely brilliant. simon10 06-04-2009, 14:06 Congratulations Steelers Imelda 27-07-2009, 20:34 So .....are we ready for the start of the season ? What do we reckon to the new signings Reiter , Morgan? I was unsure of Reiter , but after talking to Bison fans at the weekend they could do nothing but sing his praises. Rated Ben Morgan for a while after seeing him play for the Scimitars , would love to see him have a cracker of a 1st season like Rob Dowd. Anyone going to the pre season games and the Charity Shield down in Notts? Can't wait for the season to start and for Simmsy to introduce them as the League and Play Off Champions !!!!!!:hihi: XPrincessX 05-03-2010, 19:07 Come on Steelers!! good Luck tonight lads..lets kick some ass!! Go Sgroi Go!!!!! XPrincessX 05-03-2010, 20:55 2-1!!! Come On Lads!!!!!!! Imelda 05-03-2010, 23:20 Great game tonight for both teams , unfortunately not one of Carson's best for either side. For the first time this season I'm actually looking forward to the trip to Nottingham tomorrow. Bring on the Play Offs !!:hihi: XPrincessX 08-03-2010, 16:17 Heehee..I wish i could have gone to nottingham :(..Its a shame Zion did his leg in....and as for Carson..he NEVER plays fair lol.. Imelda 08-03-2010, 19:01 It was a shame about Zion , reckon we'd have had them if he'd have iced the whole game. Pretty good game though , we played 2 great periods of hockey and totally bamboozzled them in OT . How we didn't score then I'll never know. The first period let us down , we never got off the bus till the second.
