View Full Version : Is there a cinema in Hillsborough? ddolly 26-04-2005, 16:57 I've got an afternoon to kill in Hillsborough tomorrow and just wondered if there is a cinema? I dont want to be tempted to do any shopping! Cake 26-04-2005, 17:01 I don't think there is! You could always hop on the tram to the Centertainment Park and go to the UGC - should only take about 30 mins from Hillsborough. ddolly 26-04-2005, 17:03 Is Hillsborough far from the city centre? Do you know if a tram runs and how long it takes. The problem is I've never been to Hillsborough so have no idea how to spend an arvo there. savbaby 26-04-2005, 17:05 would be much quicker hopping on the tram to town , the odeon is accross from the cruicable theatre igm1 26-04-2005, 17:05 Originally posted by ddolly Is Hillsborough far from the city centre? The tram would take 15 mins maximum if the traffic is ok. Hubert 26-04-2005, 17:07 Its about 15 mins from town on the tram trams are very frequent every 10 mins at most get on the meadowhall tram and get off atvalley centretainment Dont goto the odeon in town if you have got long legs, last time i went there to see lord of the rings and was in absolute agony. you any idea how long that film is when you have got cramp and sat next to some smelly fat blob of a woman, shuvelling crisp into her mouth. UGC is much more comfortable Cake 26-04-2005, 17:17 The Odeon is awful - I'd much rather spend an extra 15 mins on the tram and go to a decent cinema than waste my money in there. ddolly 26-04-2005, 17:26 I've just had a look at the bus website and I can easily get a bus to Meadowhall so think I'll do that! I'll have a poke around on the UGC website and see what looks good. Looking forward to having a bucket of popcorn and the cinema to myself! savbaby 26-04-2005, 17:36 you would be much quicker and more comfortable on tram to meadowhall ddolly 26-04-2005, 17:49 I work just off parson cross so I think the 17a drives by, so I think I'll just hop on that. Then tram it back to hillsb afterwards. I knock off work at 2 but have untill 7 to kill when I need to be in Hillsb. If that makes sense? Thanks for all the tips tho! savbaby 26-04-2005, 17:50 yeah the 17 goes to meadowhall and is every half hour:) foxy027 26-04-2005, 20:24 Willis discount (now Netto) used to be one did'nt it? ...................................A few years ago of course!! muddycoffee 26-04-2005, 20:35 Hillsborough used to have 3 cinemas, The hillsborough Park Cinema, now Nettos near the SWFC stadium, Hillsborough Kinema, now the carpark in proctor place, And hillsborough Phoenix where Maplins shop is now. Sadly the last of this trio of delights closed 37 years ago so you are a little too late. Info here about hillsborough cinemas (http://www.rocknroll.f9.co.uk/cinemas/cinepho3.html#hillspark) crowefan 27-04-2005, 07:33 go to the showrooms near the station, lovely films and good prices, not your usual popcorn place.......... igm1 27-04-2005, 07:52 Originally posted by muddycoffee Hillsborough used to have 3 cinemas, The hillsborough Park Cinema, now Nettos near the SWFC stadium, Hillsborough Kinema, now the carpark in proctor place, And hillsborough Phoenix where Maplins shop is now. That originally was every half hour and is now every hour and is horrible! Beware - if it's anything like the number 8, it won't really be every half hour! The number 8 is the worst bus service i've ever been on, it's never on time, and sometimes, during the day when it's not busy rush hour, it comes early so you go out to get it and it's already gone and then you have to wait even longer! I just thank God for my car now! Hope you get it sorted! Lottie x ps. has anyone else had to catch the number 8? (actually number 2 to Hillsborough not nice either and that's busy - at least with the number 8 you have the bus to yourself!) Also, they have a deal - pay £10 and you can use any UGC up and down the country. Alex |
