I believe that Richard Allen was elected as the first Sheffield, Lib Dem Member of Parliament for the the Hallam Constituency.

I believe that he won the seat from Irvine Patnick. I don't hear anything about him these days. Is he still one of us?

1. His name is Richard not David. Having been a damned good constituency MP he decided to stand down and return to working in IT, somewhere down London way I think. An almost unique case of someone getting off the gravy train rather than being pushed or carried off kicking and screaming. He was succeeded by Nick Clegg.
He did unseat Irvine Patnick from a safe Tory seats which they had taken as their's by right for donkey's years. Perhaps a warning to your Brightside lot after recent events?

2. Depends what you mean by 'one of us'!

I'm altering the David to Richard in my posting.

You are right. I remembered his name was Richard after I'd gone to bed.
I agree with you. He was a first rate quality MP. though I believe that Nick Clegg is probably equal.

The ' one of us '. - The thought came to me because I hadn't heard of him for a while that he'd been elevated to the upper house and adopted a Lord ???? name.

His name is Richard Allan. I've asked the mods to change the thread title, a small point, of course, getting someone's name so badly wrong ... but it's niggling me.

As far as I'm aware Richard is a private citizen these days. But I could be wrong! :)
