Welshboyhere 07-08-2008, 12:42 AM Just went for a meal at the milestone in Shalesmoor (just moved into flat by there) and had an amazing meal. 2 courses for £18 or 3 for £22. Had amazing options, free bread and pre-courses that they did for us and fantastic service. The surroundings are really nice, would definitely recommend!!
Alastair 07-08-2008, 01:22 AM OK, it's a decent restaurant, but what's the credit crunch in your thread title got to do with it?
rouxx 07-08-2008, 09:19 AM I think the credit crunch was to do with the value of what they were offering.. although it might not seem cheap to some! I agree it's a lovely place to eat though, especially the brunch menu on saturdays!
Welshboyhere 12-08-2008, 02:18 AM Sorry I should have explained, they are calling it the credit crunch special.
Yep its not bad value. They call it Credit Crunch specials. The cocktails are 2 for 1 on Thursdays i think. What i like is that they are proper strength not watered down.
mrsmills 12-08-2008, 02:07 PM What are people's thoughts on Milestone? I've been there four times now and always felt a bit underwhelmed. Have only eaten downstairs but that has not encouraged me to progress upstairs. Drinks are good, bar is well stocked, nice selection of beers, clearly an aspirant menu/chef but food has been pretty average in my experience, last time was better.

spamalot 15-08-2008, 10:41 AM Went for the Christmas menu last year and it was awesome. One of those rare places - independant with a PROPER chef who understands how tastes and textures work and who can put together an inventive and contemporary menu without taking the p*ss with the price.

I used to think that but I have stopped going. The last couple of times I have been I found it decidedly average and far too expensive. They are charging £10.95 now for a Sunday and it's nothing special.
Apparently they stopped selling Stella because the markup was not enough even though they were selling it for over £3 a pint.
biggi 15-08-2008, 12:34 PM who drinks stella these days??
neeeeeeeeeek 15-08-2008, 12:39 PM who drinks stella these days??
What's that got to do with anything? I only drink Cider so am forced to pay nearly £4 a bottle when I go there! Just seems that an already expensive bar is getting greedy.
sierraman 15-08-2008, 12:44 PM who drinks stella these days??
street drinkers and chavs
If you want to crunch your credit go to the Norfolk Arms Ringinglow - large glass of wine, pint and two steak sandwhiches (on what looked like value sliced bread, I hope it was at least Hovis) came to just under £30. The girl behind the bar couldn't even raise a smile for it either.
