View Full Version : Best black pudding in sheffield?
can anyone recommend anywhere in sheffield that sells a good black pudding?. the stuff for sale in the supermarkets is very average. midland mainline do one with their breakfast that is very good but dont know if it available for sale locally. there must be a good pud somewhere in sheffield.
cgksheff 26-04-2005, 16:39 I get links from the bacon shop on Dixon Lane near the markets and I think that is good.
I also, occasionally, get some in the big roll from Makro and have to say it is OK too!:D
What about WHITE pudding...?
The butchers at Hillsborough barracks - think it's Crawshaws - do really good black pudding.. and sausages!
i do not know if i am right here but last i heard was crawshaws had closed down??? anyone know
I went a couple of months ago and it was packed - I'd be surprised if it had shut...? There are three listings for John Crawshaw butchers on bt.com so I guess it's still there (Hillsborough barracks would be the one listed as Langsett Road right? Don't know my roads round Hillsborough...!)
Is black pud realy Pigs Blood ?

Reminds me of when I bumped into a guy I went to school with, I asked him what he did and he replied 'stir blood' when he saw the shocked look on my face he added 'for black pudding' uuugggghhhh:gag: :gag: :gag:

Yep, fresh pigs blood and plenty of lumps of pork fat mixed with herbs and spices then placed into sheeps intestines, and boiled until set......Deeeelish :D
Mmmmm Yum, making me crave some (not)!
One of my aunts used to give it to us when we were kids, along with other delicacies like: tripe and elder :loopy:

Wouldn't want to breast feed after that !
Well it would be rich in Iron poppins - maybe good for you if you've recently had a baby. Agree about the breast feeding tho! LOL

Finished off with a few pork scratchings - i.e. fried pig's hair follicles, sweat glands and fat. Wonderful!
Incidentally, in some parts of England, black pudding is known as pig's pudding.

Why not just cut out the middleman, and inject lard directly into an artery? :gag:
Why not just have salad? All the flavour with none of the stigma!
I love 12 inches of black!! :o

Err, think you're on the wrong thread Shiesh...... :D
pudding I missed off the 'pudding' - In the North East you can get battered black pudding....like a battered sausage but black pudding....12 inches long and it is devine!! ;)
i went into a chippie in lesta (leicester) the other week and they sell full black pudding rings. apparently most chippies sell it down there. so i bought a chip butty and a black pud. it was gorgeous!!

but is it 12 inches :wow:
Years ago I workd at the Blood Transfusion Service colllecting blood whch we ran straight from the vein into bottles with an anti -clotting liquid in.
Occasionly we had to collect a certain sort of blood which we ran into a dry bottle and let clot.
The sight of the bottle of warm clotted blood with huge globules of fat suspended in it but me off black pudding for life.
