Ok, who here is excited about this?

I'm completely drawn to these films. Very intelligent, gory & entertaining. I'd like to name a series of films that have been just as good as each other...

But I can't...

Can you?

I can't quite work out if that was sarcasm or not. The Saw franchise started well, but has slipped rapidly into the mediocre franchise it is now. The first film was intelligently structured (albeit averagely acted), and cleverly shot to hint at the horror and let your mind do the rest (there was surprisingly little gore in the first film), but from the second onwards it just turned into a gore and death fest - which, unfortunately, does little to scare me. As for intelligent.....sorry, but it has become a muddled mess of back-peddling storytelling, and is seriously flawed in the twisted logic it claims to have.

Nope, for me the sad thing is that they plan to make at least another 3 (after this year's entry) and there is a tie-in console game in development.

I wasn't being sarcastic & while I agree with you Beakerzoid on some points (first film comments) & also that the films now seem to be more gore fest, they still entertain me. Can't say I get scared by films. Grossed out, yes, but not scared. The idea's that are displayed in film are great. These films are showing stuff that has never really being done before (in the way that they are being done). I'm a big fan of the series & am looking forward to them wrapping it up. Which I thought was going to be done, inside 6 films.

Yes, you can have too much of a good thing. I hope they don't ruin the series. Surely 6 will be enough. I think people will talk positively of the series for years to come.

Unless of course, the world turns into something like Demolition Man & we can only use offensive words if we need to wipe our a55!

As for a computer game?!?! You gotta be joking! That was sarcasm!

Gross out doesn't bother me one jot. All I see are special effects, and without the chills behind them they fail to have an impact.

The franchise will keep going as long as people pay to see it - the first film was planned as a one off, but was such a success that the studio dragged a dodgy script about kids trapped in a booby-trapped house that they turned down a few years previously, got a team to redraft it and link the Jigsaw killer to it, and greelit Saw 2. After that it was just a case of 'design new deaths and loosely try to link it together'. The writers working on the franchise at present plan to tie it up by the end of 6, but then the studio will just comission a new team to continue the franchise in a 'new and exciting direction' (the writers have gone on record to say they envision 6, but Lionsgate went on record with the number 9 at one point).

The franchise is a cash-cow, so will stay so long as it pays.

As for the game... http://uk.gamespot.com/ps3/action/saw/index.html?tag=result;title;0

damn. that really depresses me. when will people stop ruining movies, by bringing out more? (off top of my head...indiana jones) or doing them just for the money? (terminator 3 & indiana jones).

don't make me angry. what next...saw: the beginning.

thing is though...i'll probably buy the game.

beakerzoid, if you use 360 for gaming, my game tag is; MoviePsycho

normally play cod4 / g.o.w.

ah. i see. tell me you only bought the ps3 for the bluray. not for the games...please, not for the games.

am currently saving for a bluray player actually. but then i'll be saving up to replace my extensive dvd collection.

I bought the PS3 for both (and I hate the snobbery that exists between some owners of consoles - each system has its good and bad, and it is a case of each to their own as far as I am concerned). I am not a huge games buyer, I pick and choose, so the limited number to begin with didn't bother me (most of my games on the PS3 are the £5 downloads like Pain). I tend to play Singstar and GTA4, and that is pretty much it at present (my remaining full price games are Gran Turismo Prologue, COD4, Heavenly Sword, and the Lego games). The inclusion of a bluray player with constantly updated firmware was a big bonus to justify the price.

wasn't trying to be snobby. please don't think i was. i agree that both have good & bad. obvious bonus of the ps3, is the bluray. but for me, as a gamer, the ps3 hasn't enough choice of games.

well, time to leave work. catch you later. might watch mummy 3 tonight!

No worries - was pre-empting before certain others jump in with their console bashing. I agree entirely that the 360 has a larger range of games, so for some is the better choice.

Anyhow, that's a discussion for another forum.

Enjoy Mummy 3 (if you watch it) - not expecting much from it myself, but intend to catch it sometime.

Yeah, I like the saw films. They do get progressively sillier, but there's something about prolonged sadistic torture that I enjoy.

Umm...y'know, when I read that back, there's something worrying me...can't quite put my finger on it...
