View Full Version : Oh no... dirty sensor!

Been in the Bay of Islands today, and shot literally hundreds of pictures. All have the same dirty spots on from the sensor. Not had clear enough weather and blue enough skies to notice, but I guess at some point the damp from the van has got into the camera, and when changing a lens in the van has condensed and dried on the sensor.

I've got little in the way to clean it, and wouldn't have a clue what to do anyway... however short of having marks on ALL my photos for the rest of the week - does anybody have any emergency suggestions?! I've got a knife, a fork, a spoon and a roll of loo roll. There's not much in the way of photography shops out here either.

It's clearly going to be another thing to add to the list of 'what I need before my next trip'...

Please help...!

It's a nice pic too.
A hurricane type blower is great for getting rid of dust

And as for cleaning your sensor, q-tips can do a great job, make sure they are clean with no grit on with the blower and wipe away. They should not damage sensor, but can remove icky marks as well as stupidly expensive specialist solutions. Don't forget to blow any dust out afterwards though.

I've wet cleaned the sensor and there is still dirt on it, it's showing up almost in the centre of the pic which probably isn't too bad as it'll disappear in the detail(?) and then in the top right hand corner of the pic.

If I've wet cleaned it, and it still won't come clean then what's the next step? :o

Check if the dust is not on the lens. If it is not there, then it is time to send in for a professional clean. You can either send to your manufacturer appointed service center or any camera shop which offer sensor cleaning service.

Yeah I changed the lens and the marks are still there.. I might have to send it off to Fixation!
