Pleas will people read below and Help me please:

Hello there!

I have been looking around to join a gym for quite a while now and im just giving feedback to the Gym up in S10. My 1st impressions was TOO SMALL! But after having a tour about 4 months ago i do not know weather they have expanded. The Sales Manager gave me a Complete tour around and any question i had was full of confidance i gave me a quick and good reply. The down fall was that he was actually working on the gym floor aswell as giving me a tour so Current members was asking the Salesman questions whilst he was touring me. He also had to break away from our meeting to sign pepole in to the gym. I was not very happy with that due to the Salesman Calling me 4 Times over 2days and making an appiontment with me i thought i would have him 100% on wanting me to Join. (I can not blame him tho for staff shortage and he did say sorry about 5 or 6 times so he was trying to make up for it). He did break the price down for me at £0.83 per day which does sound quite good.I asked about a pay-as-you go system and he said that the management above him does not want that gym to go that way. (Sounded like they just wanted bank details) after showing me theTaylor made Cards i was ready to Sign up there and then until...... There was no PDQ machine so he said fill in the Direct Debit form and the next time you come in we will take the money in Cash off you so i thought fair enough pay £25 for the 1st month BUT then.... I came back and it was £25 for the next month, £11 for the remainder of that month and then a £15 joining fee. I asked why is there a joining fee, he gave me the script of admin and cleaning of the gym etc. I then decided against joing that day and went away. I went for a Tour at Greens, Fitness First, S10 and Virgin Active. I am still undecided where to go. Im writing on hear to find out there all this at Gym Plus is still the same procedure or has it changed? Also does anyone or can reccomend a Gym.

Thanks

Esporta is a really good gym sometimes you feel like you have stepped into Millhouses Wives but it has good equipment, friendly staff & a very good manager. I rate it well.

Greens, not clean, staff not professional (all the good staff seemed to have left) & clients are leaving the gym all the time also their clientel has defo changed over the past two years, they seemed to have down graded themselves.

Fitness Fitness, clean, reasonable joining fee, staff friendly & good machine equipment.

I hope the above helps. PM me if you need any further info.

I like the Esporta too. Very nice, friendly staff, plush changing rooms, and a brilliant swimming pool which is often fairly empty if you can time it right. It's very relaxed which I like and it also has a coffee shop with good cakes to remind you why you're working it off. I visited Virgin too but found it a bit scarily industrial looking, with lots of very stern people pounding round on hamster wheels.

Be careful when you join any gym, I used to use Esporta but when I wanted to cancel my subscription after 18 months they held me to ransom by imposing a 3 month notice period which worked out at nearly £180 pounds for something I couldn't use, and from what I can gather other large gyms operate the same policy - check the paperwork for me it was hidden on the back of the application form

I thought at Esporta you only needed to give them a month's notice  I have never had a problemo with thim. A few months ago I was thinking about changing gyms & they told me I only had to give them 1 month's notice but I changed my mind and I am still with them.

Which package are you on at Esporta or were you on.

I was a full member for 2 years, my wife has just decided that she too wants to leave and they told her the same thing - 3 months, and the 3 months notice begins at the beginning of the calender month, but if you need further proof just try googling 'notice period at esporta' I reckon you will be shocked at what it throws up

Thank you for the word of warning. That is ridiculous 3 months, what would happen if you had an emergancy. Companies like these know how to make their money.

To be honest, its been known for years that Gyms do this, yet people still sign up to them :loopy: so you get what you deserve.

Its like the 6 week wonders that sign up to a gym in January, and by the middle of Feb decide they no longer want to continue with the 12 month contract they signed up to six weeks earlier

Well if it is so well known how come so many people get caught out by it, is it reasonable even though you have completed well over a 12 month contract that you should have to pay for 3 months membership that you neither want or can use ?
I thought that the idea of a local forum was to help each other with information not to just say 'I told you so' and act smug, but I suppose thats asking too much of a busdriver from leeds

So what part of "sign here for the a 12 month contract" says the salesman is not clear?

The fact is, if the gyms allowed people to train when they feel like it, most would go bust by the middle of February. Thats why the gyms sign you up for contracts.

All terms and conditions will be on the form, which is likely to include the terms of ending the contract

So how much is Esporta per month anyway?

I've been a member of Greens for a few years, my 12 month contract is up and they want me to pay 50 quid a month now - seems excessive especially, as another poster has commented, it's starting to look a bit scruffy.

It would be good if some posters could give details of prices, and whether they as users consider it value for money.

I'd recommend Fitness Unlimited - you can use 4 centres in Sheffield for 1 price (Ponds Forge, Don Valley, Concord Sports Centre and Hillsborough Leisure Centre). I pay £22.99 a month and I can the facilities at anytime - they've got Gyms, Swimming Pools, Fitness Classes etc. Plus there's no joining fee which is great.
