This is such a massive subject to cover, think you need to provide a little more info...

Is this a first camera?
What is your budget?
What do you want to use the camera for?

Should be a good starting point.

As above ^^^ but but also take size and weight into consideration, as some cameras fit into a pocket/handbag.
While others can be heavy and cumbersome to carry around and you may need quite a large shoulder bag to keep the camera in.

...you may need quite a large shoulder bag to keep the camera in.

And the lenses, and flashgun(s), and cables, and batteries and cards and... back ache pills!

The major decision is whether to buy an SLR or a compact. SLRs allow lens changing and have accessories and adapters for different jobs - flash guns, tripods, remote releases etc etc. Compacts are... well... compact. Also generally less adaptable, suffer from shutter lag and have poorer picture quality. There are also some cameras, 'bridge cameras', they get called, or 'prosumer' (?), which try to give the best of both worlds but usually don't.

In a nutshell if you're at all serious about photography go for an SLR but remember the camera is only the beginning!
