My friends and I are planning to hit Ecclesall Road on Saturday night for a meal.

However we don’t venture up there much and therefore have no idea where to go.

Where are the best places? Any ideas would be great ! :)

Champs/Yankees/Uncle sams all do a great burger,
Theres an Italian opposite the Berkly center, I think its called Marinellos, and thats absolutely gorgeous although quite expensive.

We haven't got any preferences to be honest. Theres about 6 of us though so maybe somewhere with a bit of everything e.g pasta, pizza etc.

probally Felicini then web site http://www.felicini.co.uk/branches.asp?branchID=25

It is a chain, but has a wide variety on the menu with lovely wines. the duck pizza seems a strange choice but is lovely. it is not the cheapest but not overly expensive. lovely atmosphere.

As Tess said... Marinello's (if that's how you spell it) opposite Pizza hut is great. Not too expensive, but not cheap either... (Mains from about £7 to maybe £15)

My mate suggested going to Azzurri. Does anyone know what its like?

I'll definitely second that I adore Marinello's it's an authentic italian restaurant owned by an italian, who is also the head chef. All meals are cooked from scratch and you can see your food being prepared right down to the veg being peeled. I would also highly recommend the garlic bread, best I've tasted in Sheffield. You may want to book though as it can get busy

I love Azzurri, not only id the food really good, but the staff are great too, loads a fun and free brandy after your meal, what more could you want!!
Top food, if they got the home made venison sausages on as a special, try them - best about

La Tasca - very nice - great tapas and if you go between Sunday and Wednesday they do as much Tapas as you can eat for a tenner - ok set menu but still 20 choices

Felicini's is good and Nonna's was lovely when I was there a couple of weeks ago. And if you want somewhere a bit posher then I thoroughly recommend the Walnut Club (I'm off there tonight and can't wait!!!)

We went tonight for the first time in well over 10 years and were so pleased it was as we remembered, little train going round, good burgers and great Bud on draught! Hopefully won't leave it as long for our next visit!

Agree entirely with this , has been my birthday tradition for past 6 years or so to go for a meal with wife and kids but last year it was so awful I vowed never to go back.

As you say , place needed a very good clean/ refurb. Waitress was miserable as sin (even though we were only people in) , food defitely not as good as it used to be and frankly quite expensive these days.

Maranellos is great. Best Italian I've had in the UK for a long time. Friendly, attentive service too. Will be back there soon.

I know this is an old thread but we were really disappointed with Azzuri when we went in November. Food was quite bland and average tasting, my mum sent her mussels back twice as the majority of the shells were empty, my starter was basically a seafood medley from the freezer with some kind of horrible thick packet tomato sauce poured over it, the majority of the food tasted like it had been stuck in the microwave for 3 minutes and wasnt even heated properly. And to top it off there was no atmosphere whatsoever, not even music. It was a shame as my grandma paid for the whole meal for the family and really wanted to treat us, espcially since we were celebrating my birthday/my brothers graduation and his coming out of hospital.
