Hello,
I'm moving to Sheffield at the end of the month and am considering renting a house in Sharrow (Langdon Road).
What's the area like as a place to live?
I'd appreciate any opinions/experience.
Thanks a lot.

Sharrow ranges from big old houses on leafy roads to rows of brick terraces.
Langdon Street is the latter. Quite close to the shops and restaurants at Ecclesall Rd & London Road, Waitrose and Greens gym. It aint pretty though. There's a mix of people from all backgrounds and races from druggy types to 'young professionals'. I havent witnessed any trouble or crime.
You'll need a parking permit, and your mates wont be able to park at your house (one will if you buy a visitors permit).

I live in Sharrow and I really like it. As the ripsaw says it has a mix of people, the range stated just about covers it. It is a pretty friendly place (well, where I live) and it has (at the London Road end) lots of lovely restaurants from quite upmarket Italians to noodle bars, Japanese, Thai and Turkish.

The only real downside is the lack of decent pubs (IMO) and some people think it's 'rough'. I don't, but I will say that there has been a spate of burglaries recently (errr - I had two in two weeks - little scrotes). This can happen anywhere though, so don't let it put you off.

I don't know Langdon Street - but if it's where theripsaw says then it probably isn't the best looking area.

All in all, I would say it depends what you're used to.

Good look wherever you decide to live - and welcome to Sheffield!

Langdon street is a a street of Victorian terraces.

It's not bad, (the "better" part of Sharrow is there, above the traffic lights at Washington road)

the number 22 buses are fairly regular, and it's just a five minute walk to more buses and takeaways than you can shake a stick at, on London Road and (Eccy road)

it's a very short walk to town, it has a great community spirit, and we have the Sharrow Festival every July.
