View Full Version : Planned Rail Strike this weekend
From www.midlandmainline.com
Midland Mainline has been notified by ASLEF of intended drivers strike action planned for Friday 29 and Saturday 30 April. Further details will follow as soon as they are available.
semerpus 26-04-2005, 21:25 With regards to the proposed MML drivers strike on friday from noon til noon saturday.
A lot of MML employees are p****d off to say the least about this!
The drivers always hold the company and public to ransom and usually get there own way and more money.Other grades who do different jobs usually get a pittance pay increase because it's all been given to the bloody drivers.
AND it's the front line staff at stations, ticket offices etc who have to deal with all the flack and hostility from customers caused by their actions!! Selfish (overpaid!) b******s!!
All the hard work that alot of the staff have put in to improve the company and make it the best improved and most punctual long distance operator is undone by the greedy sods.
brethren 26-04-2005, 22:17 i have a mate who was on about this earlier, he has the same opinion as you and he works for that company, i asked him about the strike this morning and he went off on one and ranted for ages.
You`re not the only one and who is fed up with this happening with regards to both passengers being inconvenienced and robbed of a decent pay rise yourself.
It was in a local paper recently that the average wage in the city is 24,000 but my pal earns far less than this and has recently been told that the pension scheme is having problems and his contributions will double, he is dreading the council tax rise (if it does indeed happen on all the properties being revalued as we all are) as he will probably be forced out of a job as it dosen`t pay enough, it really does seem that the drivers are the reason why as there will be nothing left in the pot for anyone else by the time they have finished.
Hiya
I can't find where is says about the strike. What time is it due to begin?

Cutglass 27-04-2005, 05:48 I too can't find an info on the link, and I'm getting a little worried. I'm meant to be travelling back to Sheffield on Saturday and returning on Monday. The Monday return trip looks to be safe but am not sure about Saturday now. I did look up train times etc yesterday and it just said that there would be engineering works between preston and bolton, so I would probably make 2 changes instead of 1, which I'm not looking forward to, I will have my 9 year son with me and he soon gets bored of the trip.
Any more info would be much appreciated.
sniperwookie 27-04-2005, 10:26 The strike is between Noon on Friday and Noon on Saturday for the next three weeks (i.e. every Friday afternoon and aturday morning).

Hello Hels
I'm travelling in the opposite direction on Friday and the best way to do it is to travel with GNER from St. Pancras to Doncaster then change to get to Sheffield. Don't know if your husband's ticket will be valid for that though, he might have to exchange/buy new ones for GNER if they won't accept MM ones.
STRIKE IS NOW OFF
Midland Mainline trains will now be running this weekend as per the bank holiday timetable.
so why the change of heart?.
maybe the drivers have realised that they are being greedy?
i think not.
it would be interesting to compare the rate of pay for a train driver against the wages of other train workers such as guards and stewards.
i can only imagine there is a large difference.
Negotiations have been ongoing and an agreement has been reached.
thanks for info andy c. sounds like the management have probably given in to the millitant train drivers again. im not sure this is such a good thing. in 12 months time (if not sooner) these millitants could turn round and demand more pay or better conditions and hold the company to ransome if their demands are not met.
sheffieldfox 27-04-2005, 16:12 Does this mean the strikes have been cancelled for the following two weeks as well?
All industrial action has been cancelled, including that scheduled for the following weekends. Midland Mainline and/or National Express Group have given in to the fat cat drivers once more.
And not that I know any detail but I am led to believe that Midland Mainline train managers are in dispute with the company over another matter. Doubtless though, the train managers will get treat totally differently from drivers and be bullied into submission!
It's not just train drivers that make the railway run, without the people who staff the trains, the station and support staff ALL train services through Sheffield would/could suffer severly.
