Shaun Lomas of Kombat Sports promoted an action packed afternoon of thaiboxing and "Freestyle stand up"
Freestyle Stand up could be described as a middleground between thaiboxing and MMA. (it could also be described as Sanshou with MMA mitts on :D )

The atmosphere at the millenium hall was very basic due to it being a small show but the fights were exciting and action packed.

Truthfully , the fighting was more exciting than some of those large overhyped kickboxing shows people keep going on about on here :hihi:

There were fighters from well respected local Thai and kickboxing clubs such as :

AFK (of course LOL) , Don Valley Thaiboxing, Kombat sports in sheffield and Nottingham Cobras , Sherlock MMA and there was one fighter from the CZECH Republic

The results were as follows:

1. DEMO Match = Freestyle stand up .
Both fighters Sam and John were from Stalybridge and performed a good array of punches and kicks and every now and then slamming each other to the canvas using strongly executed takedowns.

The match was a DRAW being a DEMO.

2. THAIBOXING @ 75kg

Ant Stuchbury (AFK) Vs Kung Fu Tony (Kombat sports)

Kung Fu tony decided at the start that he was going to refuse to put on shinpads which initially threw Antony somewhat.
Antony agreed and took of his shinpads much to the delight of the (very drunk) crowd.
Ant dropped Tony with a right low kick- left hook combo .
Ant then shook Tony with another left hook and once in the clinch landed a barrage of knees to Tonys body and face causing blood to come gushing out. Ant threw a right hook after the last knee and Tony hit the canvas!!!

Winner : Ant Stuchbury ( 1 min 20 secs)

3.THAIBOXING
Mirostav Chapiewski (Nottingham) Beat Farris (Kombat sports) on points in what was a very strange match up.

4.THAIBOXING DEMO
Andrew Campsill (AFK) stepped in last minute to do a very skillfully executed demo with Oliver Shaw ( Kombat Sports)

5.THAIBOXING @ 95KG
Yakub Chapiewski Stopped Steven Taylor (Kombat sports) With a knee to the ribs in 0:45 secs of the 1st round.
Steven started strong with the boxing but Yakub countered with the Teep and the long Knee which concluded the contest for him

6.FREESTYLE STAND UP @ 95KG
Mark Ellis (Andy Marlow) Vs Dave Sloan (Sherlock MMA)
This fight had it all.
Good boxing , strong leg kicks, judo throws, suplexes and takedowns (both double and single leg)
Both lads were that evenly matched (and excellent sportsmen) that it had to be concluded a DRAW!!!

7.INTERNATIONAL THAIBOXING

Shaun Lomas (Kombat sports UK) Vs Cenyak (Czech Republic)
Cenyak outweighed Shaun by 95kg to shauns 83kg.
Shaun gave a brave fight and took everything Cenyak had with that characterstic pearly white grin despite being made to visit the canvas with the takedowns and also took a few high kicks and the odd knee to the face.
The result was never in doubt.
Cenyak was the victor but paid Shaun homage for being brave enough to fight him with a weight difference.

All in all was a great evening.
I also got to meet many forumers and others once again. Craig Welsh , Mark the monkey , Richard Goldland , Shaun Lomas, Darren Sherlock ,Mark Ellis,Andy Marlow and many other respected names in thai and kickboxing.
