I have recently sold my house and bought another one.
I was wondering how long it takes from agreeing the sale to actually moving into the new house

It depends on how quick the paper work gets submitted, whether there are any legal issues and how long it takes the survey to be done.
My house sale was exchanged in 7 weeks (with completeion 1 week later), but it took the seller 2 weeks to do the paperwork. However I didn't have a house to sell and I already had a mortgage and solicitor arranged, plus the other house was empty.
My previous house purchase took 4 months, but that becuase we found out half way through that the seller didn't actually own the house they were trying to sell.
my husband does conveyancing and on average it takes 6-8 weeks but as the previous poster said it depends on several factors. Is there a chain? are there any problems with the deeds or searches? the vendor has to fill in forms, etc.

At the mo, about 5 weeks, lawyers, estate agents etc are all sat tapping their fingers with there being hardly any movement in the property market
