The theme for the August competition is 'happiness'.

If you wish to submit an entry for the August competition you must register at http://gallery.sunset-studio.co.uk/. Once registered, head to the August Photo Competition album http://gallery.sunset-studio.co.uk/v/Aug08/. Open the side bar, and 'add items'.

Please only upload one image per month. Your image can be any pixel size as the gallery will automatically resize all entries, but the file size must not be more than 2 megabytes.

Submissions are anonymous to other members, and the only person who can see the members name is Hook. Images are automatically resized to 600x600px in order to ensure a fair playing field, and to protect the copyright of your images.

Submissions must be made by the last day of the month. On the first day of the following month ImpInaBox will open a poll in the Sheffield Photography forum, which will remain open until 14th to allow two weeks of voting. In the event of more than 25 submissions, a system of heats & a final will be used to decide the winner.

All work must be your own, but any member of the Sheffield Forum may enter. We encourage everybody to have a go, and you don't need professional or DSLR equipment to be in with a chance. It's all in the moment.

If anybody wants to submit their image and is having problems with the site, please just email it to Hook:

zxgr3@hook85.co.uk

He'll then stick it on the gallery. There may be a delay at the beginning of the month uploading these entries to the gallery as he'll be in New Zealand trying to capture his own moment of 'happiness', but he'll add them all when he returns. Any technical problems drop him an email and he'll fix them as soon as he gets to a camp ground with wifi.

Best of luck and get snappin!

I wonder if we'll get some entries like the ones in this Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhqlmdrk5Ns) ? :D

WARNING : the accompanying tune may stick in your head for some time after viewing. You have been warned :P

I take it the resizing means that the longest edge is done to 600 pixels, otherwise all the photos whould end up square and distorted.

That's right. We decided on that size since it's big enough to see on screen but too small to be attractive to anyone wanting to nick it. It seemed simpler than the alternative of trying to put in a watermark.

Hi. I've just discovered this part of the forum and would love to enter a photo in the competition. I have one question - does the photo I enter need to have been taken in August 2008 or can I enter a photo taken at any time? I have some photos I've taken in the past that are suitable but i don't know if they would be valid.

I've taken a photo of some children, in a public place, where they look at happy. I'm not sure whether it's acceptable to post it on the gallery as an entry though. I can't decide.

Also, there's a second photo I might prefer to submit, but I've posted it on the forum and it's on my flickr. That'll make sure it isn't anonymous won't it! >_<
