I'm not sure if this is the right forum or if I should put in the General Discussions, but here goes...
We use a lot of rechargable batteries trying to be ecofriendly and save some money and I was looking at portable solar powered chargers for batteries and also mobile phones to try and save on electricity costs too. Does anyone know if they are any good?

This was the right area of the forum to post this in. :)

When I was in Africa I used them for mobile phone and mp3 player charging and they worked perfectly. It was 40 degrees though and bright sunshine most of the time so lots of light was available. Not sure how viable an option they are in the UK.

Thanks GazE. I was wondering about the costs, i.e. initial outlay versus electricity saving? Anybody any idea?

I think it costs less than 1p to use a normal electric charger, so it's probably not worth it, especially if the charge is interrupted by a loss of light.
